I am new and slightly confused.

I see widely varying results when I compare wordtracker results with google keyword results.

Any feedback on this issue?

      Maybe I'm overthinking it.

In wordtracer, I'll see 30 vs. 18000 in google.

After the multiplication, it just doesn't even come close.

This seems to be the norm, not an anomaly.

Wordtracker and Google use totally different stats.

Wordtracker gets it's data from a whole lot of smaller search engines and other places, Google uses it's own data.

        Neither are accurate.

Wordtracker shows searches per day and Google shows per month.

Make sure you set Google to exact match as opposed to broad match as it's totally different.

I am having the same question too. Most times, figures given by google keyword tool are over hyped leading so many people to go for and work hard to rank for a keyword that would recieve little or no traffic just because they have got an inflation in monthly search figures when doing keyword research.

Both of them are not 100% accurate but i prefer Google Adwords keyword tool. Its far better that wordtracker in my opinion.

None of the above are not accurate but wordtracker results and google adwords results are only possible answers.

    Hi,

As others have said, neither is completely accurate. If I am looking at spending any serious time on a keyword, I will check the volumes on the Google KW tool, the free wordtracker tool and Google insights for search. I really like to see strong volumes on all 3 tools before I proceed.

If you are getting conflicting messages from these tools and you really want to get a more solid indication of volume, you can set up an AdWords campaign, simply link the ad to another site that is ranking fairly well (so you don't have to put together a site), bid on the exact keyword, with search network only and make sure it does not try to space the impressions out through the day.

This will tell you your ad impressions which is another indicator of volume (after running the ad for a day for example). I typically only do this if the other three tools are not giving a consistent picture and I really don't want to drop the keyword yet.

Both can be way out of whack at times and I've found it helpful to use both to crosscheck them against each other. Google's tool is for Adwords advertisers and while the new tool is much more accurate I imagine they use the PPC results as well, plus many of the keyword research software uses Google's results and will probably also skew the results, I doubt if they filter them out or they'd stop working.

Wordtracker has bee a paid subscription service for about 12 years an many people experienced in SEO use them, they give the organic searches only. But keep in mind that they use a different searchengines to gather their data and their results are the daily average of the previous 12 months whereas Google only goes back to the previous month. For instance depending on your niche searching in January and Febuarary could make a big difference in the search results when comparing the two.

I normally crosscheck them against each other and take into consideration Google Trends as well.

You might argue that the keyword software tools uses Google's tool so that must be correct, but I believe they do that because it's free to use. If Wordtracker (not the free version) were free I imagine keyword tools would be developed to use their results as well. JMO

None are accurate, they are selective at best. Use them as a rough guide for search proportions.
