I was just wondering, if you guys really understand what backlinking is?

I mean everyone knows we need it, but do you know why?

    Linking to me is like seeing who has the most friends (links). If you got a lot of "friends" then you must be cool and of some sort of importance. NO "friends" or very little either in web terms means your site has very little to offer or nothing of interest.

        are, and when they count is an entirely different question
        than what they are.

        Backlinks are gotten for many reasons, and there are many types
        of backlinks. But neither of those choices were answers in the poll.

        The basic definition for a backlink is any link pointing to a webpage.

    Everyone knows that if you want traffic to your site, you must find a woman to dress provocatively and write your website's URL liberally all over her body. The trick is to convince her to prance through the streets of your locale, wailing about what your site has to offer.
    You may want to train her so she shrieks at a deafening volume. This is a proven strategy.
