Backlinks Generating Products From Sellers Who don't even have Backlinks Themselves

There have been a lot of courses and softwares related to generating and getting lots of backlinks, but the ironic thing is, these sites don't even have a GR at least 1 and 20 backlinks themselves.

How can they even claim they have a product that will generate a ton of backlinks getting ranked on Google first page when they don't even have a ton of backlinks themselves?

And why are there IMers that will endorse them with their name on the line, beside the fact they're getting a hefty commission?

Am I missing something here?

    Hey Jason,

Since backlinking services are against Google TOS, would you really want your backlinking service to appear in the top of Google, or would you rather make sales a different way?

Some of the biggest PPC companies in the world don't even run PPC campaigns, yet they still do ok.

Which terms of service might those be?

Citation, or reference, or link needed here, for such a striking assertion, please.

Ah, "webmaster guidelines", I see ... ok, thank you. Not what I envisaged as "terms of service", but I do take the point - fair enough! I also look instinctively askance at "backlinking services" who apparently can't do for their own websites what they claim to be able to do for others.

Maybe I'm a thicko, as I had to look that word up

            1. with suspicion, mistrust, or disapproval: He looked askance at my offer.

As Alexa already pointed out, this is not actually a TOS. These are guidelines that Google's puts out. In order for something to be a TOS, then the other party has to affirmatively agree to being bound by such TOS. Merely having Google put your site into its voluntary index does not constitute such acceptance.

The term "Google TOS" is misused on WF almost as much as the term "JV" (which does not mean sending out affiliate links via email ;-) ).

To the OP: A few thoughts..

          (1) maybe they don't care about ranking for backlinks or anything in particular?

          (2) maybe the don't want to draw attention to themselves?

          (3) maybe they don't want people to be able to reverse engineer their backlinks, making their product moot, or at least of lesser value?

    PageRank is a bit pointless.

I have 215k back links to one of my sites according to Yahoo, and 55k according to Google webmaster tools, but they have dropped me from a PR5 to PR0 in the last two years.

Fortunately, PR has no affect on how I rank in Google. I still have thousands of page one rankings and the traffic to make it worthwhile.
