First, what is social bookmarking.

If I go to a social bookmarking site and bookmark a piece of content, what effect does it have other than to provide me a link on that bookmarking site?

Is there a list of the top bookmarking sites available and, like submitting your content to directories is it best to do the top ones manually?

I see alot of tools out there, like socialbot/bookmarking demon etc, and i am wondering doe the work?

Is there redundancy in using two of them?

Any suggestions on how to use social bookmarking for a piece of content would be great

    Social Bookmarking allows you to aggregate all your favorite links online.

    Imagine bookmarking a page in Firefox. This is what online bookmarking does. The "social" part of it is what makes it interesting. Bookmark links are shared, collected, liked, commented on etc. by other users. Digg is a great example of a Social Bookmarking Site.

    If you find a site that's worthy to bookmark and interesting, so will other people. They will find your bookmarked page interesting too.

    All of the top Social Bookmarking sites carry weight. When your page is listed, you're indexed quicker and some weight is added to the site you have listed. This makes Social Bookmarking a powerful advantage in SEO and Internet Marketing.

    You also get traffic from the Social Bookmarking sites.

    I use a peice of software called Social Bookmarking Deamon.

    Depending on where you do it, it can bring you traffic as well.

    There is a service called "Angelas links" I think where she sends you on a monthly basis the top places where you can bookmark your content, I do manual bookmarking.

    I see alot of tools out there, like socialbot/bookmarking demon etc, and i am wondering doe the work?

    I think they may work, but I dont want to risk my main sites.

    Social bookmarking's main SEO benefit is that it shows a person liked your site. Since SEO is all about search engines thinking your site is relevant for a given search, that fact that you're social bookmarked goes a long way in showing that you're liked by real users. HOWEVER since most social bookmarking doesn't include keywords, it's hard for engines to know if someone just showed up at your site and liked it, or if they searched X keyword and found your site to be relevant. For SEO, I'd do a little social bookmarking just to be involved, then stop as there are better ways to get backlinks. For traffic, keep doing the social bookmarking that brings the most traffic. Including social bookmarking links on your site is a no-brainer: why not let visitors make it clear they like you and tell others?

When you submit on of your pages to a social bookmarking site, you made a backlink for your website with any title ( anchor text ) you want and its clear that it helps you. Because you made a relevant link from a relevant page for your website.

      By manually is the best.
      Don't make a long list of submission continuously on a particular keyword.
      Try to change the keyword after 15 to 20 submissons.
