I recently found a really, really awesome niche that has very
low competition and very high search volume. It really is a
goldmine.

I've already put up my site and have gotten some articles up.
The plan is to get both organic and paid traffic via Google.

Here's my issue... there are almost ZERO advertisers for the
keywords I'm bidding on. And in Google's own external keyword
tool, it gave me sample CPC rates of under .10 almost across
the board. But when I plug my keywords into my Adwords
account, it's showing that I need bids of at least $1.00 or more
to show up on the front page.

I've never used Adwords before, so any help or information you
guys can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Jesse,

This is probably because your ad got a very low Quality Score.

Each ad you make gets a score from 0 to 10 and the CPC depends on the score you got (the higher the score, the higher the ad position in Google search results and the lower the click cost).

In order to get a high quality score your

    - keyword/phrase needs to match the title of your ad
    - keyword/phrase needs to be included at least once in the other 2 lines
    - keyword/phrase needs to be in the target URL
    - keyword/phrase needs to be in the title, meta description and content of the landing page

Oh, and you can check the quality score for the ads via customize columns.

    Hope this helps!

You cannot always rely on what Google tells you whether your ad is showing or not. One of our targeted keywords, Google says the ad is not showing because our bid is about a dollar under the estimated bid price, but everyday we get ~1 to 2 clicks and ~100 impressions on it. Since we're targeting about 20 keywords, we don't expect nor do we want to pay a ton for clicks, so we're okay with the lower impression rate. Point is, you can set the pace for how many impressions you get based on what you're willing to pay. The higher your bid, regardless of competition, the more impressions you'll get. Just because it's super low competition doesn't mean Google can't scale the rate at which impressions appear based on your bid price.

    Hey Jesse,

What is the quality score for these problem keywords?

The first page estimated bid is often wrong and sometimes useless.

That algo really needs to get fixed on A LOT of keywords.

Are your ads showing up when you type in your keywords?

There is a tool in the AdWords backend where you can check if your ads are showing which doesnt trigger things like previous searches, cookies ip or anything like that.

I've had the same thing happen. Obviously if your QS sucks than that will affect it, But a lot of times the keyword tool isn't an accurate prediction. I had keywords that had an estimated CPC of .05 in KW tool but when I ran the ads it gave me over 6$ dollars a click to be on the first page.

I would suggest just raising your max cpc and seeing what google actually charges you. Just because they say 1.00 to be on the first page doesn't necessarily mean that is what your going to get charged.. With that being said, I havn't really found any data from the KW tool be all that accurate. Just have to test it out...

Also sometimes you will get low CPC estimates in KW tool using exact match search, but if those keywords are in competitive niche where people are bidding on the root keywords very high this will happen.

Example: Easy no fax payday loans = Epc of .05
But payday loans = Epc of xx.xx

      Hope that helps

what you have described should be ringing all of your alarm bells for 2 reasons, the first is if there are no ads it usually means there is no money, but this can be wrong, second and more so is no ads / low q score as mentioned, this has a high probability that it is a g non preferred topic and as such by placing an ad there you run a very high risk of having your account suspended.

if it is anything to do with hype, love doctor, re bills, get my ex back forever, mmo, even so far as clickbank, be careful and get out of dodge before the sheriff shoots you down in a blaze of glory.

    Hey Jesse,

Sorry I read this TOTALLY wrong, 4 hours in 2 days.

Anyway you are trying to rank SEO and get paid by ad sense, if there are no advertisers that is a pretty bad sign overall that there isnt money in that niche.

Are there any digital products? How about products on Amazon?

The fact that 1. there are no other advertisers on the SERPs and 2. they're asking for $1 bids indicates to me that Google has slapped the entire niche.

If there were no advertisers but low CPCs, or high CPCs but lots of competitors, that would square... but not zero competitors and high click prices.

Google periodically cleans house on entire niches and scuttles everyone's ads across the board.

I know for a fact the niche is profitable - there's just not a lot
    of competition for whatever reason.

And weird thing happened... I left my bids low at like .10 - .15
and, even though it gave an estimate of >$1.00 to be on the
first page, it still showed up and still got clicks.

First page bid estimate doesn't work that well, it can't even work out that there are no or few ads.
