How To Calculate Keyword Density

Hopefully an easy question....

What is the correct way to calculate keyword density?

Let's say I have a 300 word article, and I want to achieve a 3% keyword density of the 3-word phrase "good old days". How many times should the phrase "good old days" appear in the article to achieve 3% density?

I'm confused as to exactly how this is calculated. I would like to know what is the official way how to determine this by hand without using any keyword tools.

Note: Please don't reply with "keyword density doesn't matter". I'm not asking whether or not to write for keyword density. I want to know how to calculate it.

Thanks everyone!

  • 1 keyword phrase per 100 words is 1%
    Put the same keyword phrase in 100 words twice and your KD is 2%
    Put the same keyword phrase in 100 words three times and your KD is 3%

    So forth and so on...

  • Hi,

    Yeah this way of checking keyword density in keywords is right. we mostly used 2-3 time a single keyword in 300 words phrase.
  • Calculate it like this:
    a=Your target keywords
    b=all keyword in your text
    Keyword density= a/b
    For example if you want to reach 3% density while all of your text has 300 words, You should repeat your keyword 9 times in the text.
  • thank you for the tips.
  • you can put 1 keyword on per 100 words other read this article on wikipedia about keyword density

  • I think we should not count the keyword density including title , keywords and meta description tag.Just focus keyword density on the content part or we can say body part...

  • Keyword Density Calculation: Divide the number of times you used the keyword/keyword phrase in the article with the total number of words in the article. After getting the result, multiply it by 100. 100 is the constant number. You will always multiply the result by dividing the number of times you used the keyword or the keyword phrase and the number of words in the article by 100.

    After doing all the steps indicated above, you should have the percentage of keyword density in the article that you made.
