Its true. When you choose low competitive keywords, ranking for them is very easy but you need to makes a lot of pages and optimize each of them for one of these keywords. Its a way for persons who don't want to work hard for promoting their websites for a few keywords. Because as you know, optimizing for keywords which are searching thousands per month is difficult but for keywords with about 1,000 monthly search, is much easier.

Im not sure if you have ever heard of UKP Theory but it works very well, check out Technology and scroll down to "Deep Site Theory" for a cool trick i use a lot on our sites. Pretty cool case study too to show how effective it is. Hope it helps.

I personally believe that your only competitor are the top 10 sites and not the remaining sites below that. Study the top 10 sites and if you think it would take more time and outranking them then move on.

Its also good to target high search volume keywords if you know what you are doing.

I agree but you must also remember, if you choose a very high searched keyword getting to page 5 can take forever. While the 1st 10 results are your main competition, there is no guarrantee that you wil ever make it to page 1.

People can only guess what may happen when it comes to seo. No one nows it fur sure.

Yes that's right, but it is more of an educated guess based on thorough keyword-research rather than just plain guessing and this is where a lot of people fail when it comes to SEO.

As you stated, you can be optimizing for up to 6 months with no results if you don't do your research right, that said, it can be ok to have some long-term projects going at the same time to target these higher competition keywords as the long-term benefits can be very rewarding.

If you really want to get ranked, use keywords that has many searches and low competition. The lower the competition + many searches= money keywords.

Generally, I believe you, but aren't there exceptions to this, when it comes to pop culture keywords like "Brangelina", where people without the remotest interest in buying anything are searching for the same reason they watch tv: for free entertainment?

Hi guys new to seo here. I did the method posted by whitebread, thanks btw, and i came across a problem or should i say a decision to make. Hopefully some helpful soul can advise me.
I have 2 three worded keywords. The difference is actually only an extra "s".

1st keyword AAA BBB CCC with 1600 exact mthly search / allintitle is 463
2nd keyword AAA BBB CCCs with 2900 exact mthly search /allintitle is 831

As a newbie i think im should just go with the 1st kw but the thing is google search box has this habit of adding a S to the last word on watever you type in at least its happening to me.

eg. im typing warrior, before i finish typing, the dropdown box will show warriors. I guess most people will just click on warriors and move on.

So which want should i go for ? Appreciate any word of advise and pardon my bad english

In my opinion you need to look at other factors than PageRank.. Backlinks for example and how they have worked with on-page SEO..

I was having trouble finding the right keywords too in terms of numbers. I hadn't heard the allintitle threshold. I did hear target keywords where the top 10 results have an average pagerank of less than 2. Any thoughts there?

Hi buddy, sorry for the delay. Bases on my own experience YES backlinks is the main source of SEO if you are building backlinks that have pageranks of N/A then its better to build 50 daily if you are not going to be indexing them.

if you want to build 10 backlinks per day, make sure you get them index. The easiest way to get your backlinks index is to backlink your backlinks on a page that has a pr of atleast 2+ it can take up to 48 hours. Google can take up to 18 days to index your links that has no PR. That is the reason why most people wait 4 months to see their ranking improves in the serps. if you constantly get your new links index you will be on page 1 in no time.

if ou are indexing your backlinks you will move up in ranking quickly.you must remember building a new backlink is almost like buying a new domain. you must get it index for google to even notice it. don't just wait for google to find your links. and also if you are building 50 links per day. make sure you are not using the same anchor text. use 35% of your main keyword. That will keep Google from De-indexing your site.

MadHat hit that on the nail. The top 10 sites are your MAIN considerations!

If you have confidence in kicking them off the top 10, by all means do it.

Finding low competition KW is a good way to start, but if you want to make a whole load of moolah, you'll need to step up your game and get good at it, taking on higher competition KWs as you improve.

Oh and bummer...getting your KW ranked is only one part of the equation. You have to know how you're going to monetize that traffic.

I have sites making at least 5-10 times more than some of my other sites despite having much much less traffic. Take into consideration the profitability of the KWs as well.

Yes I agree this is probably the best way to rank quickly.But getting your site on top 10 for a competitive term gives you a long term benefit and your chances for getting your site ranked for less competitive keywords increases a lot so in my opinion a mix of both the keywords would be the best strategy.

Sounds like a good strategy. My thoughts have always been if you can't be #1 then don't even waste your time competing. Google rewards those in the #1 spot by increasing traffic from a market share of 12% to 42%.

Historically, the main difference between yahoo / google vs bing is that Google prefers quality links, while Yahoo / Bing prefer quantity. That said, the rules of biological research is changing. I always think it is better to focus on google as it is the largest market share, and whatever yahoo / bing ranking I pick up is an added bonus.

Dont forget to use attention grabbing titles and description tags so you will actually get that 6%...There is a lot of competition in the SERPs so what do you do to make yours stand out...This is usually an overlooked element in SEO when most is focused on the rankings..If you have good rankings but low CTR score, you are wasting prime real estate...

Study the top 10 sites and if you think it would take more time and outranking them then move on.

Its not about the NUMBER of competitors is all about the competitors on PAGE ONE!

I agree keyword analysis is vital, but I look for high volume keywords that have lowish authority sites on page 1. I would normal get to page one in 2 months, but for higher volume keywords I think that is reasonable.

Hey surenpp, i have 2 websites but it is not the main domain that matters i build multiple pages for my site and each page targets a specific keyword. how much do i make? i think that is a little personal.

a newbie never get to top10 for "poker" but "poker something something" is achievable for smart people.

Long-tail keyword rankings are great - but eventually you'll want to start ranking for those big money keywords that get 100s of visitors per day and high payouts.

When I started I was doing long-tail, but sooned switched to ranking for short keywords like the product name themselves. This is actually not that hard to do with matured domains.

That is one good strategy but I would like to add to that one that you need an attention grabbing title and description to get ppl to click on YOUR listing...There are many great strategies to use for SEO if you keep digging down to the bare details..
