I am getting loads of rubbish comments on one of my blogs -

And I do mean loads.

And I do mean Rubbish!!!

Is there any point in switching off moderation and letting the idiot comments go through? I haven't got time to deal with them and thought that I might get some SEO help anyhow

Don't turn it on. It will downgrade your blog link juice if you want to monetize it in the future. Also, what platform are you using?

Definitely, don't turn it on. It will make your blog look like junk and lose authority ranking over time. Once you turn it on, your blog will be filled with viagra and enhancement crap. Been there done that and turned it off lol

Viagra and enhancement crap - I wonder what that's all about!!

OK I'll leave the moderation and just keep on deleting the comments. I am amazed people have the time and inclination to even bother with their rubbish comments

          Thanks

Actually most of them were generated by automation software. Do you have any spam filter on? like Akismet (hope I spell it right)?

I'm still deciding whether to buy into askimet since they started charging. I think the plugin idea looks like the way to go.

Askimet, charging? Not really sure what you're talking about, unless you are referring to the commercial version. In which case, can't you technically just say it's a personal blog?

I've never purchased it, although I've also never really used it except on a personal blog.

Akismet for WP is still for free and it rocks:

Ah, forgot all about this. I believe you can also set the minimum word count per comment

Try adding recaptcha to the page. Most software has trouble breaking through this.

Yeah this is junk, never let it go through. Other than the SEO side of things, any credibility will go down the drain.

As for SEO, all your link-juice will go down the drain. Comments like this are normally created with automated software that posts random rubbish that usually has absolutely nothing to do with your blog.

Even if it did provide SEO value, I would rather build a few extra backlinks than having my blog filled with garbage.
