Basic backlink question

A couple of basic questions for you experts if you don't mind:

1. Do backlinks added to the comments bit of a web page/blog count for anything?
2. When you put a backlink in your signature in a forum profile, e.g. via the type provided by Angela's Backlinks, do you have to post something for it to work or is the act of adding it to profile enough?

Many thanks

Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a webpage may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page.
In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node from another web node. Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

    1. Depends. If the comment links are followed and as long as there are not about 3 million spammy comments on the page, then yes they count more than nothing.

    2. You can increase the chance of the link not getting deleted and increase the contextual relevance by adding other relevant text to the profile.

    Hi Amunt,

    1. They count if the Blog/Forum settings are set on DO FOLLOW. That means that Google will go through the links to your page and connect the 2 together ( you will get a backlink ). If it is NO Follow you will not get a backlink and it is (almost) useless. You can still get organic traffic through the link.

    2. In forums posts in general it is neccesary to post comment that either ADD Value or present a valuable question. Just writing "Hi love your blog" and have a name of "Dental practices in Denver" or something will not get approved.

    Hope it helped.

    Sincerely, Buyseech

      It's still a backlink - just isn't as valuable as a dofollow.
