Hi Everyone,
Well I finally broke down and started a campaign via ppc.

My question is this. what is the average impression versus click ratio.
In other words what have you found with your impressions-the times the ad has been served verses the click on the ad

My ad has been served 933 times so far-no clicks. so I am curious what the average ratio is.

thanks in advance

By PPC do you mean Google Adwords specifically?

A typical, "average" click through rate would probably be 2%... so 2 clicks for every 100 impressions.

No clicks after 933 impressions means you need to improve your ad.

This is all if you're just running your ads on Google search... not content network.

Oh... banners on Google's content network behave differently than the search network. The CTR is typically VERY low -- but the clicks are also frequently VERY cheap.

I think banner ads are the hardest ads to use. You got to have the right banner that CATCHES the users eyes, and makes them WANT to click on your ad.

A text ad usually doesn't have any effect on catching the eye, just making them want to click on it. So you eliminate an entire half of the marketing strategy by going with text ads.

That's probably why banner ads are so cheap... because not many people can pull off a good banner to show, therefore people won't want to click on it!

    Hi WD,

There's really no such thing as an "average" Click-Through Rate (CTR). Every campaign is unique.

Right now, I'm getting between 4% and 15% CTR on my AdWords search campaigns. But there's a trade-off between volume and quality -- I aim for quality leads.

If you have had 933 impressions, but no clicks, that means either your ads are poor or you're going after the wrong keywords. Try putting your keyword phrase in your ad's headline.

Also, make sure to go after targeted keyword phrases -- NOT generic keywords. In other words, don't target "Cars." Instead, get more specific. For example, "2010 Chevrolet Camaro Z28."

Targeting "root" (or short tail) keywords will often get you a lot of impressions, but few clicks. That can be the case because a lot of people search for those words -- but when the results are displayed -- they'll see ads that are more targeted to their real interests and click on them instead. (Doah!)

Even worse, those "short tail" keywords aren't "buying keywords." People searching at that level of interest don't know what they want -- they're just looking and researching. So your money is wasted.

    Hi Everyone,
    thanks for the responses.
I paused the banner ad. banner is very nice just a smaller version of the main site's header.
I switched over to a text ad will let you know how it goes.
    Thanks for the responses
    cheers
