Since I did not see an all-in-one thread for adsense I thought I would start this up.

I am planning to add adsense to my sites as another viable income stream. I still have some questions though and I'm sure there are others out there that may have the same questions too.

Basically I am looking for any input you guys have for the best way to optimize your adsense and get the higest CTR or the most pay per click.

What is the best place to put adsense?
What is the best ad size to use?
Do text or image ads work best?
How can I optimize my ads to get the most relevant ads for even higher revenue?

Questions like these and many others are what I would like answered.

Feel free to ask your adsense questions too and I hope we can get everything answered.

  • Google Adsense has tutorials inside your Adsense control panel to answer the first and second questions.

    #1 For the first one, they supply a heat map for you to study.

    #2 Generally the square 300x250 (?) works best, and the 728x whatever works second best.

    p.s. I use neither. I use the 180x600 and 468x60. They work best for me in that order.

    #3 For me, text works better.

    #4 Adsense determines what to place on the page, by the information provided in the URL. It is kind of backwards. They should look at what is on the page, but they don't.

    If you doubt me test it, as I have done.

    When I first read that, I thought surely it was bull. But after testing myself, it is proven.

    On maximizing the click-thru, you just have to test.

    Two weeks ago, I moved the 180x600 from the right side of the page to the left and my adsense immediately started producing 2x and 3x previous revenues.

    • Depends on the layout of your site and the type of content you provide.
      Try to follow the heatmap to get started and then use split testing to find out which works best on your site.

      Again depends on layout. But med-large rectangle are the statistical choice Probably because they show more text.

      Have to test, use both for highest payout.
