Hi,

Our company has been using a domain name for our computer networking website for a long time but we've completely re-worked the entire website and it will be optimised for other keywords such as IT solutions, IT networking etc - we want to change our domain name to a new one but I know that not doing so could also be beneficial due to historical data of the domain name (domain age, performance etc) - I want some opinions - should we create a new domain more relevant to the new website and redirect the old URL to our new one or carry on using the current domain name (as it is still relevant but not as good as it could be.

      Ask yourself this,
will the warriorforum change its domain?

digitalpoint? monster? zillow? amazon? ebay? yelp? kayak?
bing? (Okay, bing is a bad example. They need a redo)

Point is, you become an authority site.

Now if your domain is donuts.com and you do only cookies, there may
be some visitor confusion... But then kayak.com is a good example.
Has nothing to do with kayaking, boating, canoing, etc.

I'm going to weigh in with a yes.... but ultimately it is up to you.

You have to decide is the gain in improved branding for your site worth it?

Do some research on your current/old domain, how PR does it have? What inbound links? Anything negative? Positive? etc

IF you do change, look up carefully how to do the switch over. With 301 redirects to preserve what you can
