Creating blogs for backlinks - does it work?

Hi,

Have any of you had success creating blogs (for example wordpress at myblog.wordpress.org or at your own domains) and linking from these, for the purpose of creating inbound links for other sites?
That is, not optimizing the blogs, but simply using them for links purposes.
I'm not starting this thread to discuss quantity vs quality, because I know there are lots of different opinions about this, but simply to hear if you have tried this strategy.

Thanks.

Best regards,
Thomas

Do you do anything to optimize the blogs, or just leave them as is?

I usually create blogs and optimize them with other blogs and forums and if necessary a level up again. The best method to rank high.. I try not to interconnect the blogs at the same level and those with the top level. Follow a tree-structure.

Of course if you want to use blogs for promoting your other websites, you should do some seo works for them too. Creating and leaving them can not help you i think. You should make them some important in Google's eye.

Yes you can create blogs for backlink purposes and this strategy is being used by many search engine optimizers, but the key lies in getting a link from a blog which has some pr.I mean to say if you create a blog then you should promote it also.

I was just talking about this exact subject on another thread a few minutes ago :] ..Ive had alot of success with backlinks when it comes to blogs. Personally I would use Squidoo.com to get quality backlinks, it lets you creat a free blog on whatever topic your interested in even if it has nothing at all to do with your niche. After you do so, which only takes about 10 minutes if you have a topic in mind, you then submit your RSS Feed with your WordPress website and this alone creates TONS of organic backlinks. Give it a shot for yourself its simple & free to signup/ use. Hope this helps a little :]

@The Web Master, Would you ellaborate a bit on this: "you then submit your RSS Feed with your WordPress website and this alone creates TONS of organic backlinks"?

    Thanks.

I have a small network of sites and blogs that I use - Squidoo, Hubpages and then my own blogs on Wordpress, Blogger, Tumblr, Weebly, Soulcast and a few others. I have them all bookmarked under a 'backlinks' tab on my Firefox menu bar so I just click on the bookmarked link and add a post to them. It doesn't take long and they are gradually getting bigger themselves, so the more content I am adding to them the better the backlink quality from them will be - that's what I'm hoping anyway!

You can create multiple blogs for your backlinks but the question is can you handle these or optimized well all of your sites. Its not how many Its how you established the sites. hope this helps.

Yes, and if you create "satellite sites" for you main site on your own hosting, you have to make sure that they are hosted on different hosting or at least has different IP than your main website, as Google has started to detect interlinked sites with the same IP and discard these links. Also, you have to create original content for these supporting blogs, and promote them as well with backlinks. It's a lot for work to do and can be overwhelming for one person.

This definitely works, but only if the sites themselves have any kind of authority. If you just create a new Wordpress.com blog, and link that back to your site, it won't give you much link juice unless you seriously pump up that site itself.

Useful thread here.I have got some result with using hubpages, even ranking for a competitive term without any effort to it,but I must say I carefully optimized it.Others are just for getting backlinks.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I have given it some thought, and yes, it will definately require a lot of effort, time and money to create such a network. So the question is, will my resources be spent better if I outsource this process and focus on my sites instead. I think it will.'
    Outsourcing it is.

    Thanks.

By 'outsourcing this process' I do not mean that I will have someone build this network for me, but instead buy link packages from established service providers.
