If you are using Wordpress. A couple of live stats plugins that I often use are KStats and StatPress. Both great.

Yes I know however my host claims statpress was creating a load on the server.... any other alternatives.

Oh ok, I haven't had any trouble with additional load on the server with StatPress, perhaps KStats is a lighter weight plugin?

Perhaps you may need to upgrade your hosting plan?

I haven't used any stand-alone analytics software other than Google Analytics unfortunately.

However, I don't understand why you would need to swap from this. I only check my stats once a week so that I have a clear understanding of where my traffic is heading.

Checking more than once a week seems silly to me, you will be analysing fluctuating data that may cause you to make premature decisions on your marketing.

Yes, I've tried Site Meter for one of my sites, and it works great. It gives me more information that I care for.
    Here's a site I haven't touched in a while

Awstats. Crazy in depth reporting and EXTREMELY accurate... Honestly, I think it's more spot-on than Analytics... Just not as appealing or user friendly interface.

      CHEERS!

If you mean free alternative, i select Awstats but if you want paid alternatives too, getclicky, Woopra, SiteMeter and StatCounter are some others you can use.

    Try Optify.net

Not only does it track visitors like Analytics does, but it helps you with SEO optimization of your website (on and off page), and displays the rankings for your keywords of choice in Google and Bing, and also for your competitors.

They also have a "Twitter for Business" built in that lets you create twitter campaigns.

I signed up for the 30 day trial. When the person calls you to ask if someone can call and walk you through the program, agree to it. This is $500-5,000 a month software for the high end (amazon.com is a member, for instance). The person will do a personal evaluation of your site and make recommendations that you can use. I have jumped from non-indexed to major competitor, and my 30 day trial isn't up yet. After that, you can just use the free version of the site, which allows you optimize "3" pages of your site, and track 3-5 keywords. What I did was just work really hard the first week to optimize all of my pages with the site, use it to choose my keywords, and find my competitors. Now, all I will really need is the free version, because I know what keywords I need to rank for, and those are the ones I want to track.

I'm not affiliated with Optify in any way, but I am really pleased with their service so I thought I'd mention them.

***EDIT*** forgot to mention, it has "lead tracking," which shows where each visitor comes from, what page of your site they went to, how they got there, etc. It then assigns a "lead score" to them, which allows you to determine whether or not to follow that person and if they might be a potential buyer/member.

When we talk about Alternatives to Google Analytics, there are very less options which come to our mind. Google analytics is google analytics no one can beat google product.
