Questions concerning article marketing and duplicate content

We have been recently thingking about blogging with helping get traffic to our site/squeezepage. Our plan is to buy articles for $5 a piece and to put them on my blog to keep content new. My question is if we take the articles we buy and put them on our blog can we submit those same articles on article directories and not be deemed as duplicate content. If we can what are some suggestions to good article directories in your opinion?

The most misunderstood term in Internet Marketing must be "Duplicate Content."

As far as Google goes, Duplicate Content is only penalised when it is on the same site.

For example you have an article "Hello Kitty" and it is in four categories: Greetings, pets, animals and friendship. Then google sees the article on the front page and follows the links to Greetings, then Pets, then Animals, then Friendship. The result is that Google sees 5 copies of the same article, supposedly at different locations on the site. This is why there is an XML Site Map Plugin so Google won't follow the wrong path and penalise the site for running its bot in circles. This is what is know as "Duplicate Content."

Most article directories do not care if the content you submit to them is unique. Ezine Articles (EZA) is. IF you have the article on your site, you must use the same pen-name as you used on your site so EZA recognizes you own it. Otherwise, it may reject your article. Some people submit to EZA and then post it on their site 24 hours later so they don't have the hassle. Once it has been submitted to EZA and accepted, it can be posted just about anywhere else.

Even though you post a unique article to EZA, think about this. 100 or more publishers could pick up your article and post it on their sites. Each copy of the article would be exact (according to the TOS of EZA) so ultimately, you will have duplicate content across the web, which is what you want because your link to your site is in it.

So, don't let Duplicate content scare you. Just use an XML Site Map plugin for WP.

If you still have some concern about the content being rejected because you published it already, then rewrite it. You can change a few sentences, create a new introduction and summary line and add things in the middle for either the article on your site or that you send to EZA.

I hope this helped without being overkill.

      That is not correct!

Though Google has no objection to most duplicate content not on the same site, it frowns at and even penalizes duplicate content on different sites contrived with malicious or fraudulent intent.

      This resource is more explanatory.

Thank you for the link. In the Navy, we were repeatedly told that every rule or procedure was written in blood. I imagine the same holds with Google, exchange 'fraud' for 'blood'. I have read a lot of the old 'black hat' strategy teachings. I have seen everything from adsense arbitrage to link looping to zealous keyword stuffing techinques (none effective today) but in many cases, technology created a spillover into some of the black hat strategies, such as the duplicate content on a single site.

Google doesn't want to support fraudulent or malicious behavior, nor does anyone else. But sometimes we have to consider that Google isn't a person, it is a bot. The automation is not managed by humans, though I have read that Google now has some humans double checking sites.

My intent with my sites is to provide a real service to the reader, but at the same time take reasonable and acceptable steps to attract high SERPS. Link wheels scare me, but not using the Article Directories.

Thanks again, I bookmarked the site.

        Just noticing this reply.

Dele, I can also drive my car the speed limit down the highway but it's generally frowned upon if I commit vehicular homicide or run people off the road.

Duplicate Content Penalty in Google is a myth. To see my analysis on this subject, click here.

Of course, that was not your question.

The purpose of article directories is to syndicate existing content to other publishers. So there is no problem using the same article across several article directories.

The only people who claim you must use a unique article on every directory are those that believe a Duplicate Content Penalty exists within Google.

I suggest you to submit those article on article directories after publishing them on your blog. Its the bets thing you can do because in this case your blog content is original one.

There are no clear indicators that reward content writers for their article marketing efforts. Instead, there is plenty of discussion around duplicate content penalties without weighing in the importance of provenance and originality. While blogs can serve as both proof of ownership and offer distribution through channels of social networking, the scale of duplication is significantly smaller than overall web opportunity approached with article marketing. Subsequently article directories and directory submission services emerge to appear as the only credible means of large-scale duplication, circulation, syndication and article marketing.

The use of article directories is most effective. Equally important, the articles need to be picked up by various webmasters and reprinted in their websites, blogs and newsletters. A resulting effect of article marketing then would be duplicate content around the web. Duplicate content is availability of the same or closely similar content in the internet.
