Did a search on a number of phrases yesterday. Did same search today, Google shows about 60% the total volume it did yesterday. And yes, the match type was the same (phrase) both times. Is this a joke or what? This makes market research kind of tough eh?

I noticed the same thing, was re-analysing some keywords I collected a while back a keyword that had 18,000 exact monthly searches shot up to 40,000 exact monthly searches. Maybe they've done an update or maybe they're just trying to screw with us ;D

the numbers I see for games related terms I search for seem highly bloated

exact phrases dont seem to show their unique search results anymore, it seems google is combining phrases into the same pool of results which totally irritates the hell out of any of us

im sure its to increase bids among adwords no doubt...

Google shows this information according to the previous month i think. So you got different results in November and now i December results are another ones.

For the keywords I was searching this would definitely make sense.

This is correct, but even then, the keyword tool isn't too accurate.

      **Results may vary**

Considering that it was still November when I did the searches (and when you posted), your theory doesn't make sense. Plus, IIRC, the results are based on the previous twelve months, not just one month.

Those who are using Market Samurai or a tool with an equivalent function, check out the Trends bar-chart in the keyword research module. Better yet, click on it to be taken to Google Trends, where you can sometimes get an idea of past seasonal/trend fluctuations in that keyword's search-volume, and therefore hopefully make more accurate predictions as to what's on the horizon.

You'd be amazed just how much keyword search-volume figures can fluctuate month-to-month, even if they seem somewhat "evergreen" on the surface.

I rely heavily on the google adword tools and it seems to work pretty well for me. I just use a lot of keywords with a lot searches in my articles and get a lot traffic.

There seems to be an update in the GAKT again.

The GAKT is again showing bloated figures for most if not all keywords. Some keywords have very high seasonal trends and in this case, it is under reporting the search volume.

The inflation can be as high as 70% more than the previous figure last month or so (which was more accurate). Or lower by about the same percentage.

Which makes the whole tool somewhat of a joke.

There is a huge difference from one day to the next with Googles data and most the time it is woefully inaccurate anyway.
