1 - A backlink, is a link that leads to your website, from another website. For example, the link in my sig, 'internet marketing product reviews', is a backlink which leads to a website of mine.

2 - It generally doesn't do YOU any good to link to someone else, unless it's an affiliate link, or you're linking to an authority as an additional resource to your site.

3 - You should do some searching around the forum, for backlinking techniques. You can find all the info you need right here in the forum. Have a look around the SEO section of Warrior Forum.

Backlinking must be done and I find linking on blogs is helpful. I recommend searching on google as there are some good articles out there which are very detailed.
