    Hey TomBuck,

Youtube SEO can be a bit finnicky, but I've found a few things that help.

    1. Send junk traffic to your youtube vid or channel, this is important as the more people look at a video the more it's likely to be what people want to see. Makes a lot of sense.

    2. Embed the video everywhere you can. Kind of like backlinking, this works absolute wonders for Youtube SEO.

YouTube uses different methods to rank videos than Google. You can stuff keywords into your description 9with restraint). You can look at the tags used by highly visited vids in your niche and use the same ones if they apply).

But YouTube also looks at how many sites out there have embedded your video--that's kind of important and many of the great videos may have them embedded on hundreds or thousands of sites.

I'm pretty sure they look at how long viewers tend to stay on your vid. If the average viewer clicks out after 8 seconds YT probably thinks your video is of little interest and that will likely hurt your ranking?

Also, the more comments you get posted the better off you are. How many "thumbs up" votes you get counts too. How many subscribers you have to your channel is important because they will get notifications when you upload new videos and your subscribers are much more likely to give you a "like or thumbs up" rating than the average Tuber just searching and finding yours. Hope that helps a bit... --Mike

    Don't just rely on YouTube.

Use tubemogul.com and hit all the video sites.

The most important thing about video SEO is Title, Description and Tags.

The content of your video doesn't matter as much honestly as long as they have a link to your site.

Okay thanks, do you think if I embed them in hubpage hubs that will help?

Youtube's search function ranks videos partly according to how many total views they have, and how quickly they are accumulating views. I know this is a problem if you are trying to get video views solely through SEO. Youtube also gives preference in the search engine to uploaders who are in the Youtube Partner Network -- so if your competition is in the partner network, they will always rank above you.

Embedding your video in webpages is not just important, it is vital to obtaining views if you cannot make at least page two on Youtube through SEO.

Just put keywords in your title and description and always put tags. And then send the link to a group of people (friends, relatives, workers, etc) and request them to watch your video. This will be additional clicks... And as we know in youtube, the more views your videos are, the more will actually view it.. :-)

Ya know, of all the youtube threads here this one seems to have gotten a
lot of good responses. There is not much you can do. There are no backlinks,
      per se.

But using facebook compatible elements, getting massive views and ratings is
one way to start. Certainly have a youtube channel. Getting a lot of junk
traffic to pump up the views was priceless advice. You want your channel
      and video to go viral.

But always remember, when the world wants a video, they go to youtube
and search. There is one thread here with something like, "Instantly rank
a youtube video high." Not going to happen. Unless you were like the guy
at the airport and went viral overnight, "don't touch my j#nk"

I've seen videos in one of my niches (a more competitive one) get the top spot in a week with only a title, no description, and the title ends up in the tags. They don't seem to have crazy view amounts either, usually. Luckily most don't remember to make their stats private so you can at least see if their traffic is from a particular forum/site and whatnot.

It could be due to this being a "gray area" niche where videos are flagged down all the time that the top spots are so volatile, but I don't know.

I have another question. What sites allow for easy embedding of youtube videos, like break.com and iviewtube.com ? In that you just give them the URL and they embed it.

For Youtube SEO I do the usual stuff:
    • keywords in title,
    • keywords in description,
    • first word in description is link to product page,
    • populate tags with targeted keywords,
    • tell to all of my friends to view, like, or even comment the video.

Hi i Cant say i am an expert in youtube SEO but i spent few months focusing solely on Youtube SEO while i was at work lol!

I have a video ranked no 1 for some keywords and that video in bringing me some money

Here is what I found out.

Backlinks is still no 1, when it comes to ranking BUT title tags and description plays a role too.

I conducted my own experiment , i backlink 2 different videos with the same keywords (both videos received same no of backlinks) but the difference is for the second video the keyword(the targeted keyword used in backlinking) im targeting for is not in the title and only in the description and tags.

2 weeks later when I perform a search on youtube with my keyword

    Video 1 is no 2

    video 2 is no 5

Well this comes to no surprise right? BUT when i changed the title in video 2 to include the keyword within hours my ranking increased! SO yes choose your titles wisely.

The beauty about youtube is that the changes you make is updated in the search results VERY VERY fast!

Newsflash: There is no such thing as a "backlink" to a video in the SEO sense of
the word. Getting it embedded will get it viewed and ranked more.

Okay, and yeah I sorted out my title and desciption but still nothing. People say backlinks to the actual video is worthless, but I do not know where else to embed my video?

    Not true!

Backlinking to a YouTube video really does work. I've done plenty of work linking back to YouTube videos and it helps a lot.

And when people favorite a video. It's a linkback. Quality videos help the most, because other YouTubers will favorite the video, thus = linkback.
