Does anyone know how the SE's feel about PHP. I am building a site were I am going to dropship fitness equipment. I am building all the pages with PHP. I need to have a log in area and shopping cart. Is that going to affect how the SE's feel about my page?

    • ROTFLMAO! The WF uses php...

PHP in most cases just defines variables, databases, and then....
spits out html....like every other major site that uses similar
      stiff. Like asp and others.

      So many myths here.

Google does not hate domain.com?=whatever... in links.
They readily crawl and index them. No problem.

Anybody that says that, well.....what can I say?
Voodoo seo. Amazon, ebay, twitter, youtube, the
whole thing is laughable...they all have items with ?,#,! (all are
part of coding) showing up in SERPS....and that's just naming a few
off the top of my head for a quick reply....

What visitors like, is canonical urls...has nothing to do with
      google.

  • So is Wordpress and many other sites.
The SE don't care what it is written in. All they see is HTML.

    • All the PHP code is executed before the search engines ever see anything -- on your servers.

That way, the search engine bots see the HTML and any JavaScript.

What you want to avoid doing is using JavaScript to bring in any content -- because the search engines will not execute JavaScript (it's a client-side language, as opposed to PHP being a server-side language).

But the short answer to your question is no, search engines don't hate PHP. And you should be fine!

    • Yep, all the php code is processed in the backend then html is displayed.
  • There is no reason for that. Maybe they don't index good if it's linked like domain.com/index.php?id=1324&category=music, but you can change that and make it search engine friendly in the .htaccess file for example to: .domain.com/music/new-album-relased-by/.

Google ".htaccess Rewrite rule" for more information about converting php's url vars to "html" files.
    From: ./index.php?cat=books&topic=success
    to ./books/success.html

    Google very likes it :]

    • Thanks that is just what I was worried about 'cause I am generating all my links dynamically.

  • LOL, you make me laugh mate, you come out with a post about "What SEO Is", etc, and you ask this question?

Why should php, html, htm, asp, etc matter?

    • It is the structure of the site that matters more then source code.

PHP code is excuted on the server and the results are generated
      a html to a browser/spider.

If you are using a unix/linix base server you can Mod_rewrite
      domain.com/index.php?id=1324&category=music into
      something like domain.com/music/1324.html

Here is a good article to help you understand.
      Changing dynamic to static URLs
      Search engine-friendly links with mod_rewrite
Changing Dynamic URLs to Static URLs

      [Helpful Advice]

Don't use relative paths to images and included files on a page if you
plan to use the url rewrite.

The rewrite makes the browser think the images are in sub folders that
don't exist and you will get broken images.

      Reference you images like http://www.domain/images/myimage.gif
and you will avoid this problem.
  • PHP is no issue for you to get tensed as most of the websites today are built in PHP............
  • If that were the case then everybody would be getting away from PHP. PHP is no problem in Google's eyes

PHP is server side, Google wouldn't even know it existed on the site unless you add it to the URLs (.../some-page.php). Even If you add .php to the URL, nobody cares, php is a web standard.
