Adsense Click Through Rates

I'm creating some blogs for Adsense traffic and doing keyword research for each blog.

Can someone tell me what type of traffic is more likely to click on Adsense: people in info search mode or people in buying mode? I'm pretty sure the answer is info search mode because majority of people are seeking info rather than out to "buy". I just wanted to run this by others before selecting my keyword phrases. Thanks!

  • Assuming you are running adsense on your blog as a means of monetization, it is more likely that people in a "buy" mentality will click on ads. Ads almost always out to sell something, so I click when I'm interested in what the ad is selling.

  • I beg to differ. A lot of my sites are purely informative and get very good click through rates. For example, I have a site teaching people a certain IT training course, and I have Adsense on it which of course shows other sites offering paid programs and training videos. In this case, people are simply wanting anything they can get to help them finish the course so they click through.

    • It sounds pretty tricky to predict the outcome of such trade-offs I would concentrate on just building traffic in the general field and discover what adsense does with them.

      Better paying ads will tend to be those identified as "buyer' words by the Adsense marketers, causing more competitive bidding for the word resulting in a higher cpc and a bigger pay off for the adsense site. Your going to have more search rank competition from retailer sites for those buyer terms, ideally you would sneak in with more in depth technical information than the sales page descriptions have, but with enough hot terms on page for adsense to match the better ads to.
