Hi folks

I have a few Olympic sites and one of them is receiving around 60-100 clicks per
day now but the problem is, the ads aren't paying very high. Can I somehow changes the ads to be higher paying ones? The sites I have are:

Olympic Pictures - Free Image Hosting Related To Olympics
Welcome! :: Olympic Videos

I hope someone can help

Cheers

First of all, you need to put the right keywords on your specific webpages. I always use keywordcountry for this matter because keywordcountry gives me the keywords that pay highest.

      Thank you for your response.

Do you mean that I need to somehow put text into the landing page that is more keyword specific?

Or do you mean that the meta tag in the header needs to have better keywords?

Sorry to be asking but I am a newbie, still learning SEO.

The landing page is made up of advertising and gadgets, but internal pages have articles.
Should I be trying to make the articles more keyword refined?

      Cheers

Nice tip on the Keywordcountry. Thanks. I've seen this same tool and the video was very similar presented by another guy on another website a while ago. It was called something else thought. Can't remember. Wondering if the IP was bought out?

You can not choose any specific ad to be displayed on your site. Adsense display ads automatically, depending on the content of your site.

However, you can use competitive ad filter to block any ad that you do not want to see in your site. And you can do Section Targeting to display relevant ads.

The biggest problem is probably the olympic niche probably does not pay very high, it only has .33-.78 adwords bids according to spyfu.

Thanks for the useful info about adsense payout. Quite intriguing really because I would have thought that there would be very large organisations wanting to get in on the Olympic traffic, so it wouldn't surprise me if Google aren't controlling this.

And thank you to everyone else who have contributed their thoughts.

        Much appreciated

anytime you are going to pick a niche go to SpyFu and enter the main keyword into the search box, if the adwords bids are under $2 its probably not worth your time to pursue adsense. I personally will not target niches that do not have adsens bids over $10 anymore

Of course google controls adsense - and adwords - they own it. A check in SEO book shows a MAX .71 CPC for Olympics - may show differently in Spy4U but it's not much and translates to a few cents on adsense. If you had a site that got a kazillion hits, it might be worth it - but in this niche you are competing with free info from major news sites covering the event.

The best dollars from adsense are in niches where people are actively seeking an answer to some problem. When people search for Olympics or Beijing Olympics, they are not looking for a solution to a problem - just for info on the games.

With Olympics, big advertisers have crafted huge TV ads - BUT - they are promoting their brand in ads, not selling Olympic products. That's the difference.

I would have thought that there would be very large organisations wanting to get in on the Olympic traffic
That may be right - but doesn't make it profitable for adsense. I've made the same mistake in "thinking" something made sense - and learned it's better to check the facts to see if the "cents" are there or not.

The value in your sites may be that you've learned a lot from doing them, and remember - there are winter olympics next and you might get ideas from other sites now to prepare early for those including finding better ways to monetize such a site.

Hi Misty! I guess you might have to change the content of your site to focus on niches that attract high paying Ads such as real estate and finance.
