U run an interests based social network and I want to get people to start adding content to the site. All the links are do follow and I am happy for people to post articles with links in. I just dont know the best way to get people to start. Any ideas.

Do some article marketing, join some forums in your niche. Get added to article directory lists, but you might get overwhelmed with a large amount of dross

Looking at the site I thought your niche was meant to be a meeting place for people with varied interests. Splitting it down you then have movies, fashion, health and fitness etc. So if you search for forums on those topics and do some networking you might get some members. If you look on internet marketing forums for article marketers you will likely get only a small percentage of decent articles.

check out HARO - post a request there. You will need to pick a particular niche or topic for each one. You cant just say 'looking for anyone to write anything' or maybe you can but the quality will probs b pretty low

If you broadcast (do)follow links to internet marketers... they are going to swarm your site for backlinks. Problem is, how many are going to stick and how many are just abusing your site for a backlink.
