In a Adwords Campaign is there any benefit for keeping your "Display Network" separate from your "Google Search Advertising"?

Yes - please keep them separate. Also, you may not want to run them both at the same time.

I guess it would be nice to give a reason....

      It's about CTR.

      It's about cost.

If you mix them up, you can't test.

A visitor to a website is a different than a searcher.
They may not be looking for the same things.

I would hesitate to say just go with search results, because depending on
what you are offering, you may do better on the content network.

Your ad copy in many cases would be different, and probably there
would be some keyword differentials as well.

They work totally different and should always be separate.

If you are not sure about the content network, just disable it for now and stick with the search network.

When you decide you might want to use it, you will put it in a totally different campaign, with different ad copy and ad group structures.

The content network doesn't use quality score and the click through rates will skew your ad copy split testing to the point of making it useless.

          Thanks for the replies..

I have been using the search ppc for along time now. I am an ecommerce store. I have always stayed away from content network, but I would like to test it out at a very low price b/w 2 and 5 cents per click i was thinking.

I will keep doing some research for running a good content network and test it out this week, keeping my campaign search separated.

Other than Warrior forums where would I find some good information about doing a content network campaign.

Definitely keep them separate. You'll get your stats all messed up if you don't and it can be difficult to calculate your true ROI and other important stuff.

Google themselves are always the best source if you want to learn about one of their services (such as the display network). They've got tons of tutorials and its all free.

Yes, keep them separate, and here's why:

Unlike search, in the display network prospects aren't looking for your product. That means you're going to have to snap them out of surf mode with your ads.

You're also going to want to set lower bids (usually), because conversion rate on the display network is (usually but not always) lower.
