Hi everyone,
just writing this because I've finally done it, I am a newbie and i've had my site for about 2 weeks, and today i finally got it in top spot on page 1 of google for my link words diy solar panels north wales and page 1 but not top for flintshire. I think I know how i've done it, and I have only spent about £35.00. So now I'm hoping it will earn some money. Its not doing bad with adsense but i'm hoping to sell some products now. If there are any more newbies out there who want to know what i've done, just send me a message with your email and i'll send to you what i've been up to, I won't charge for info, its free because i'm so pleased, and hopefully you can do the same.

Go here put in your search term. https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeti...AS#search.none

What we are saying is..... oh forget it. No one searches for that group of keywords...............ever.........yes you rank number 1 when the first person on this earth besides yourself uses those exact keywords. Now try "weight loss" and see how fast you get to #1 on page one for that search term. For free.......... with just "content".

By the way "weight loss" exact search

          weight loss

          7,480,0005,000,000 per month

Thats world wide searches on those words.

So yours have a "0" amount of searches for the entire world and you rank number one. Yes you will on that term because everyone in the world has decided it is not worth being number 1 for a search of "diy solar panels north wales", because their is no money or searches for it.

So later when I rank number 1 for "peanut-butter sandwich eating underwater".........It does not matter. No one in the world is searching that term.

Short tail keywords are difficult to rank for and they are mostly useless in my opinion, people search for something more specific. In Dallus´s case I highly recommend doing keyword research to find a long tail keyword about "diy solar panels" with about 2000 searches per month and build my site around that keyword."diy solar panels north wales" is just too niche.

I think he's explained his strategy quite clearly - he has a physical product that he is selling (with a very high profit margin, I might add) and he's targeting very specific locations with his sites. He does not need to get a ton of traffic to his site in order to get a couple of these high value transaction deals.

this thread is in page 1 for the keyword as well, diy solar panels north wales...

for a very simple reason, no competition for this keyword.

thats why theres 127,000 sites competing for it

Also I cover North Wales for my products i sell offline, which are solar panels, and if i can get the diy people on my site and then they read about the feed in tariffs which we have in the UK they will hopefully want to buy a complete system which is about £12,000. Which is worth a lot more than the diy info. thats the reason my search listings are specific.

And for newbies like myself, we havn't earned enough money yet to spend on big campaigns like the big guns. So being specific is the best way for us to get results.

this is not the way to judge competition, you google search:

        "diy solar panels north wales"

you will only find 2 results, so only 2 competing sites, where 1 is yours, another is this thread.

        when you google:

allintitle: diy solar panels north wales

no results, means no people use this as title, no one competing for this keyword....

Agree, very simple to rank #! with an obscure or rare term. Anyone can rank #1 without competition for the words and in the exact word order.

The key here is to put the term in quotes where there are only 2 results: Google

vs 127,000 results without quotes where results are basically meaningless since it's not an exact match: Google

ops, sorry, the two results in quotes are also threads in this forum, because we mentioned the keyword "diy solar panels north wales" too much here!

i search using normal search and get this thread #1 in page 1 for this keyword! haha....just because we mention the keyword too many times!

don't you think theres a good lesson to be learned here, if you have lots of links with more obscure keywords you would get the same results, but for a lot less money. I'll have to try for solar panels north wales next, without the diy, can you tell me how many are listed for that

But what good is a site that gets no traffic, I mean zero traffic.

How many real human visitors are you getting?

                I venture to say none.....

                Think of it like this.

"Tomorrow is silver and yesterday was an apple "

Wait an hour, type the above phrase into google and this post will rank #1 for it, but who would ever search for that?

                Get it?

A mate owns the UK's biggest/leading solar site and his company has never spent a penny to get it on the front page - for almost every solar related keyword. Yep, he's even beating Solartwin, who (I'm guessing) do spend a fortune.

You do not have to spend a penny for the traffic, you just have to provide value. Well done so far man, hope you get to where you wanna be.

But still, shouldn't this be posted as a free WSO or something because you're requesting people
to take action to get the information from you (i.e. give you their email address) - instead of just posting it on the forum for everyone to read.

Good first effort, Dallus. Don't let the naysayers get you down, if you're actually selling a relevant physical product that obviously has high profit margins then you don't really need a lot of traffic for this listing to be profitable! It may not bring you results immediately, but just keep developing that site and make a compelling case for visitors to contact you immediately once they land on your page. Also, you might want to insert an opt-in form on your page so that you can capture the contact information of your website visitors, just offer a short ebook or report on solar energy/panels in exchange for that.

it depends on keywords, sometimes some keyword + location get lots of traffic but many are = 0 traffic....

you can use the google keyword tool to determine this...look at the local search volume...

if almost zero traffic...no use to rank...because unable to get traffic from search engine, better use other methods such as classified ads to get traffic.

Hate to burst your bubble on this one. You're not in first place for your keyword, this thread is now #1 in Google.

Otherwise not a bad start. But it's not really going to change anything if nobody is actually searching for your keyword.

      WELL DONE MATE

While you may of made a few mistakes along the way but you are doing something that 90% of other people don't do and that is TAKING ACTION.

Just take this as a positive learning experience and try again this time be sure to research your chosen Niche and use the Keyword tool to see that it has at least a decent monthly search volume and then do it all again.

The key to getting to #1 of Google is finding a good niche that has little competition and build a good web page with all the usual SEO requirments and pretty much getting on Google #1 page is not difficult. (at least that is what i have found)

Over the past month I have built and launched about 20 sites and at least 10 of them are on first page of google for specific products, others are on page 2 so need a bit more work and tweaking.

The key now for you is to make money from it I believe I saw an ebook on click bank about DIY Solar Panels maybe that could be your first product. (not sure there is any Sun in Wales though

Just dont give up and try again, its a learning process and the key to winning the race is keep going learning along the way.

      Good Luck

Cheers for that, I have made some money now, but not for the product i was trying to sell, because i have come on the first page of google for loft insulation in my area, and i have had a couple of off line sales for that.
I am just testing things at the moment so if anyone has a decent affilliate product please pm me as i do want to try and make money online as well. but i will be setting up another website for that when i have found a product what i feel is right for me.

        Good Luck

        Gaz Cooper
In my opinion this Comment is the best one here for you Dallus !

Now that everyone has had their chance to let the guy know why his website ranking for his keyword is worthless. Let me step in and tell everyone why they might, just might, be wrong. Yes, google adwords, remember google adwords shows no traffic for that phrase but remember google adwords is just that, it's for adwords, it's not exactly the perfect tool, there's no perfect search volume tool. Who knows, 1 person from that area might search that term this month and buy from his site. He could probably make at least $100 commission (wild guess) with a high end product such as that, and that 1 little $100 sales would put him in the top 25% of marketers IMHO. It's far fetch, but it's not like the keyword is something stupid like "dog walk rope shampoo animal" lol

I say a #1 rank for a small possibility is better than not ranking for a keyword that could make millions, which is the situation that most people are in this very moment. Dallus, I'm not suggesting that you should continue your business in this fashion, the other warriors have valid points, but on the other hand your achievement defiantly beats a blank, you obviously did something right, just try it on a bigger scale next time.

If you want to have a business start thinking like a business and have your site represent your business.

When I see "THANKS FOR VISITING MY WEBSITE" with a photo of you and your dogs, I'm simply not inclined to buy.

It's about the products and your customers, not you.

Great Job Dallus. BTW, don't get discouraged if you made couple of mistakes but keep trying out new techniques on your website. And if you see results you must keep doing what your doing and always improve upon it. With hard work and perseverance you will eventually hit the target.

    Hey,

Just as I was reading this post I decided to do a search of where my website was for the keyword and wow in 2 weeks I am number 1 for my keyword.

    Keyword: 2 Dollar Internet Marketing

Never realized until now. But I guess like everyone said here, there's only some competition for that keyword.

      Cheers, I am.
What i have done is, made sure my keywords, description and the content of my main page all match, and this seems to be working, and one of my other pages now has come onto first page as well, so i get 2 listings on first page of google.
I'm not after loads of visitors, because my work is off line and i can only visit so many people a day, Want i need is about 500 - 1000 visitors and 4 of them leaving contact details, and that would be me sorted.
The problem is they need to be local to me.

Good job! Don't listen to people telling you this was easy, it means you're beginning to understand ON YOUR OWN how this works. The best internet marketers succeed and fail on their own without listening to advice from other people. You have to fail after someone tells you not to do something to REALLY LEARN what they meant. And you've succeeded at something. Good job and keep up the good work!
