Help Needed - Can I do This With Wordpress Permalinks?

Hi guys. I have a wordpress site that I would like to change the permalink structure. I have "site.com/postname" and I want to change it to "site.com/category/postname"

I know how to do this but the problem is the links I have already built to the blog posts. Do those links redirect automatically to the new url? If it doesn't, is there a pluging that can do this?

Thanks a lot for your help

Hi Alex, when you change your permalink setup (Settings > Permalinks), WordPress will cycle through all of your posts and recreate the permalink slugs to match your settings.

So for example, if you set your permalinks to site.com/category/post like so...

    Custom Structure: /%category%//%postname%/

Then WordPress will then recompile all of your dynamically generated links but not your hardcoded links (the ones you've placed into your post content).

So you will need to either manually redo the hardcoded links or find a plugin to do the replacement. I'm sorry that I don't know of such a plugin.

Thanks Clickbump for your answer. I am sure I have heard of a plugin that can do that automatically but I can't remember what's its name
