Is on page SEO necessary for variation of main keyword?

I asked this before...I #2 for my keyoword and #5 and #6 for my keyword with an -s ending and -ing ending. I would like to rank number 1 for all 3 searches. I am sending backlinks with anchor text of the 3 different variations back to my site which was recommended by everyone here. The question is should I also be having the keyword with the -s and -ing ending on my home page in bold as well to help with on page SEO? Is there any other suggestions for on page SEO? Or does it even matter since I am sending all the variations of the anchor text back at it?

Homepage = Rank for your main keyword, then target the variations
Money Pages = A different, but related keyword.

As far as on page SEO, yes, you want the actual word on the page, but at the same time you don't want to dilute the keyword density by using a variation.

Puting the keywords you want to rank for in bold does not do anything when it comes to onpage seo.
