Does breaking internal links affect your rankings?

I want to change my website but do not want it to affect my rankings. I have 28 pages linking in a silo structure (or thats what I tried to do anyways). I am linking to the pages above and below but through the content which I want to change. Can I break the links then re create them all at the bottom of my page without it affecting my rankings. I was gonna do something like this at the bottom of my page for internal links:

page1|page2|page3|page4

As long as the bots don't crawl your site while the links aren't there you will be fine.

I would do everything in the backend without changing the site and then reupload the structure so the links are never actually broken and you have a smooth transition.

You mean change it all first before publishing it?

You are best off just making all of your changes offline and then uploading all the files. You don't want to have your site live and search engines crawling your broken links.

      Are you using Wordpress?

If so, it will be a little more complicated to copy the necessary files from the server and manually edit them.

Just edit your pages in the WP dashboard and click "Preview" instead of "Publish"

Only publish when all the links actually go somewhere
