Boosting your alexa ranking?

So my alexa ranking stats are way off what I can see in analytics.

Is it possible to influence/boost these stats at all? It seems that many of the "tricks" dont work (e.g. alexa redirect)

It confuses me as to why people care about alexa when the stats are so wrong, pity they seem to have the market penetration to make them important still.

for me - the only ranking I'm really concerned with is in the SERPs. Also - in the end, conversions is what matters the most...

I absolutely agree that conversion is the main thing. Which would you prefer. An alexa ranking of 300,000 and 3 sales a month or an alexa ranking of 2 million and consistently generating 65 sales per month?

Always strive to work on your conversions and the sales process.

That's the question - Why is it that many people are preoccupied with their sites' Alexa rankings?

Way off? what does that mean?

I can't even come up with anything close that would remotely equate anything
between alexa and analytics. I think alexa stats is an oxymoron.

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

Dont concern about alexa. Alexa is really misleading people. Always prefer your serps ranking.

When I say the alexa stats are way off, I mean my known statistics vs competitors known statistics do not reconcile against my alexa ranking vs theirs - i.e. for competitors who I am equal to in published stats/serps/compete.com my alexa ranking is way lower.

Yes serps are king but sometimes you need to take baby steps to get the serps up there. There is a reason I am concerned with the alexa ranking. Getting certain alexa stats is one of the (many) pieces in the puzzle for me to take steps towards better serp ranking.

Sorry to be a bit cryptic but the reason is very very specific to my site and my plans for it.

P.s. as an aside I think alexa's days are numbered now that compete.com is offering more accurate figures.

Your Alexa rank automatically improves when you have good backlinks to your site..so Alexa rank is not an issue, instead focus on promoting your site well.

ome very good advice. It's amazing how fast one can fall Alexa ranking in just a short period. I saw places in Millions go as low as 50,000, or less than six months. Traffic, content and internal links are important.

Alexa measures the traffic only from the alexa tool bar installed browsers and multiply that amount by a factor and gives as the total traffic. So, you can increase it if you really want to increase it

Your website needs to be reputable and worth linking to. You must provide unique content for your visitors and it must be targeted to your visitors needs as well as the search engines.

WEll as far as the alexa is concern it mostly based on the generic tools by different source and link capability . As far as you are getting direct targeted traffic you don't need to worry about alexa.

install the toolbar (or extension if you are using google chrome).

I've gone from over 400,000 Alexa ranking a month ago to 209,000 Alexa ranking today. I have seen an increase in traffic during this time, but I'm not sure enough to justify such a large leap in exactly 30 days.
