Would this work?

I have a blogger site that's getting 30k impressions per week. It's a video site. The problem is, it's making only $15-$20 per week from adsense. Would it work if I write contents that are completely unrelated to the videos? Contents that are targeted at high paying keywords.

I read that they are keyword that gets you ads that are worth $50 per click. Any truth to that? I figured if I write about a high paying niche (let's say $10 per click), odds are, I will get 1-3 clicks per day with that high traffic and that's still pretty good.

  • Just because you send people to a mesothelioma blog post does not mean you are going to produce a $50 click. You want to focus on the highest paying keyword topics related to the traffic.

Alternatively, you could capture emails from all this traffic and start promoting CPA deals to the list. This would help you diversify and increase overall revenue.

    • that's the problem. There is not really a product I could promote to that market. I didn't make the blog with the intention of making money. It was just a hobby and it grew bigger than I expected - 30k impression per week and growing. Today I received 41 adsense clicks so far from 2941 impressions but only made $3.49... that sadden me.

Why wouldn't I get higher paying keywords if all my written contents are on a more valuable topic?

I am new to adsense, thank you for your info

  • There has to be some way you could monetize it instead of adsense, but without knowing the niche, it is difficult to give you any feedback or ideas.

    • it's an anime (japanese cartoon) site. I simply get the episodes from hulu (so, it's legal streaming) and embed them to the blog.

I want to give adsense a shot first. I like the concept. It's so simple.

  • I think you can add some content related to videos and can add those high paying keywords into the content and monetize your adsense ad according to the content and this should increase your adsense income.
  • Out of curiosity how did you get that much traffic to your blog?
  • Bit of advice OP...

    1. Change your site over to a self hosted blog pretty soon. You're starting to see some income from the site and I'm sure you dont want to loose that if Blogger gets a wild hair up its backside and deletes your site. Not to mention that you really should want to have more control over your sites than what Blogger allows.

    2. You say you're only getting "$15 to $20 per week from Adsense", to be completely honest that's not too bad, especially for a site that you simply stream videos to. That breaks down to $2 - $2.66 per day and you you also said you have some days that are higher. Seriously...for a single site that you do very little work on...thats pretty decent really.

    3. If you want to capitalize on the traffic then do as others have mentioned and find another related product to put on the site. You might have to do some searching but I would imagine that there is one somewhere.

You asked if there were $50 clicks out there...sure, there are higher paying clicks to be had. I appears you have kind of figured out a decent approach to making money with Adsense (at least one that works for you). Now do some searching for those higher paying keywords, use your current video site approach to build sites around those higher paying keywords and then continue with your SEO to build the traffic to those sites.

    Hope that helps, good luck!

    • I already tried promoting a product. Even a clickbank product that teaches ppl how I to make their own anime site to earn money with - I didn't make a single sale. Clearly this group is not very interested in spending money.

I looked at my adsese data and it says gaming type ads were making me the most of my money (and "make money online" ads second place). I filter out all type of the other ads to focus on gaming only, that didn't improve my earnings much.

I want to try focusing on a specific game to get targeted ads for....like world of warcraft. How exactly do I figure out if it is a good paying topic without having to test it?

Thank you for your time everyone

If you didn't create the blog with the intention to make money out of it, then why are you worried that it's not making enough money?

Honestly, you've not told us everything we need to know about your intentions.:-)
  • Where did the OP say that he created the blog with the intention to not make money from it?

I dont think the OP says this at all, I think he's looking for suggestions and help on how to better moneitize the site. I'm not sure what gives you the impression he doesnt want to make money on it?
  • OK...guess I missed that. Even still, we all know that plans change, especially in IM. I'm just saying I wouldn't be so quick to judge.
  • Yes, at first..I didn't think this could make any money because I never thought it would be getting that many visitors. I was just doing it for fun since I've been into anime since I was like 9 years old (now 19). So I start to blog about it by embedding the videos to my site and write episode reviews. and so far this month, it gets 59865 adsense impression. Just thought it would be unwise not to try to cash in on it.

"The one bolded above is pretty decent on level of competition has a dacent CPC for teh keyword and gets 9900 exact searches per month"

@Rsberg: Thank you so much for that list. But if competition wasn't a factor, which keyword would be best. Competition is not a problem since I am not getting those traffic from Google or any other search engine. Let's just say I've succeeded in figuring a way to get tons of free targeted traffic from that niche by thinking outside the box.

    • There are many possibilties here, if it were me I would start with the type of example I showed you. Do some keyword research and target those with low competition and high CPC. If you're not getting the bulk of your traffic from Google then the competition (to some extent) doesnt matter much so just stick with those keywords that have a higher CPC..then wite some articeles related to those keywords, find videos...etc etc and insert the Adsense code and take it from there...might take some testing to find the right combo but you've got one vital piece already (traffic) now you just need to find the combo that converts that traffic to clicks (Adsense in this case).

      Good luck!
  • Thank you. Will do starting right now!
  • Thank you. I just wrote a review for a clickbank guide about world of warcraft.

Does it take a while for adsense to read my page to give me the ads? because my ads just changed from anime to automobiles :/

P.S. How come the number of adsense impressions doesn't match up with my Google Analytics Pageviews stats?
  • I suggest you to change the place of ads on your blog. It helps you a lot. Also i think usually you should make about $40 per week with this traffic. So i want to say don't think that the situation of your website is too bad. Also you can try affiliate products. Maybe you earn more using affiliate links.
