Domain name trick(?)

I know a lot of you are very fond of domain name matches, even though
I see a ton of big sites ignoring this. Like zoosk.com. Anyway, I just
came across a site that takes this to the max. They triple the keyword.
In other words, they are into a fish site, so they have fish-fish-fish dot com.

What do you think of triplicating or duplicating? I was thinking of something
on the order of studentloans-studentloans.com (seems to be available)

If you think you get some push via domain name, why not take it one
step further, especially if your chosen domain is taken?

I think twitter-twitter-twitter.com is available. What do you think of this
nonsense idea?

  • I think repetition in the domain is more for being catchy and easy to remember, IMHO, rather than being sexy to Google.

    • It might work with single words, but probably not so much with a phrase. And it sounds a bit silly. Not a bad idea in some markets, but in others might actually work against you. Like who would want informtiaon from a site named

      cremation-cremation.com

  • While they're triplicating keywords, I'm totally outranking them with my quadruplicated keyword domains.

    e.g. fish-fish-fish-fish.fish

As you can see, I also registered that one with the .fish TLD. It makes a big difference.
  • Stay away from using a company's name or product name within the domain name. You will get a letter and an email from their legal department ordering you to give up the domain name, and you will have to do the work in transferring it back to them.
  • Well it might work OR it can be a complete bad idea. But thanks for this, I will surely try this once I have time.

  • This is a trick tried by others in the past and can work BUT...google can tag it as related to keyword stuffing....this refers to the practice of loading a webpage with keywords in an attempt to manipulate a site's ranking in Google's search results...and that IS why you are doing it in the url right?. You can go for it but be prepared to lose your rankings or your site in the indexes if your competition reports you and google decides against you.
  • Whether a domain is long or short,to me,it is not necessary. What matters more is
the quality of the product or service the domain is promoting.

Anyway people prefer when the domain is shorter,or maybe shorter.See how many
people visit Google,Facebook,Yahoo,MSN,Twitter, etc on a daily basis.Do you think
    if WarriorForum.com is WarriorForum-WarriorForum-WarriorForum.com,would you
have been finding pleasure in visiting it on a daily basis?

A short domain does not only make your site likable and look unique but it also shows professionalism.

People don't have much time to waste.Give them what they want and give it to
them as fast as you can.And one of such ways to give it to them fast is by making
your domain as short as possible.

    To our success

    • Hey this thread was started in jest, actually. Brand names are allowed in
domains all the time. It's how you use them that matters. Hence Joel Comm
user adsense in many domains. But that's besides the point. If
studentloans.com matters for keywords, then studentloans-studentloans.com
should be a viable alternative. And even in triplicate up to the max characters
in a domain. If not, then one must use caution about any push using keywords
in a domain. If that logic holds, then fish-fish-fish would win over anyone with
      just fish-fish.com.

How about fishing-fished-fish.com ? That should really reel 'em in!

    • Well, one fish two fish is a tricky example, as that's a very
popular book. Since I was a kid. Probably many searching for one fish
two fish, maybe even add red fish blue fish I think those folks and
the restaurant made a sly choice.

Just in fun really, but also giving people more options when they say
they just can't get the right domain. Think outside the box.

I pick domains for people, not search engines. Do a search for electric
socks, the only url in the top 10 with electric socks is the squidoo page.
And that's not in the domain. So, out of the top 10, electric socks in a domain
does not win. Even with quotes. Does not even show up. I think the domain
is owned by thunderbolt, the industry leader. But thunderbolt.com takes
      the prize.

  • Although it would be good for seo terms having a domain with a company name however we need to remember to be professional the same time so people take us seriously. Personally I wouldn't go for a rhyming domain because I don't think people would even think of looking it up unless you have done marketing. So I think the bottom line is we need to do our marketing correctly and have a professional yet somehow related domain.
    All the best guys
