Dedicated IP hosting and search engines?

Guys, I have a question:

There has been debate in the SEO industry for awhile regarding whether or not using a dedicated IP address is better than having a shared IP for your website:

Some SEOs suppose that there really is no good reason to obtain static IP Web hosting. Your site will not perform any better by having its own static IP.
Some others theorize that your choice of dedicated IP hosting vs. shared hosting might slightly affect your rankings (i.e. it's a factor considered by search engines).
Yet others suppose that sharing an IP address with known spam or adult sites raises a warning flag with search engines, so some of them may respond by banning the entire IP address from their index.

So, is it really worth to pay an extra $5.00/month to have a dedicated IP hosting? Does sharing an IP address really affect site's ranking in search engines?

Thank you.
Andre

    Hi Andre,

This topic has little relevance to SEO. Search engines may ban access to their search services for using automated queries, but this doesn't effect your referrals from search engines nor their ability to crawl and index your website.

Search engines are much more granular in there approach. They can tell if an individual page links directly, or indirectly to a malware page. Since pages from your website do not link to pages that are infected you have nothing to worry about.

Where the real concern should be is in having your IP address banned by corporate IT departments. That will limit your users' ability to reach your website, but that's not a search engine issue.

Here is an answer of SEO Guru:
That's not important unless you are in black seo business. Most of shared hosting providers normally keep 500-2000 sites within one IP address and many of these sites could be on top of SERP

It's pretty much the case that you don't need a dedi IP.

However if you had >100 websites on 1 IP all linking together it might set off a filter on Google, as it may be construed as 'manipulation'.
