I am doing some seo/niche research (which is by far my favourite part of IM)
and looking at comepetors site and I started thinking which comes first high PR or traffic

I have heard it said the higher the PR the more you move up the ranks but I have also heard
The higher quality site and more visitors the higher your pr

so which is first pr or traffic

    Are you referring to PR as in Google PageRank or PR as in your Google ranking?

    There is a subtle difference: PR is a measure of authority assigned to your site (between 0-10). For example, Facebook and Google have a PR of 10.

    Google ranking refers to where you come up on Google searches. So, if your Google ranking is 15, you will come up on the second page of Google, in the 5th position.

    As far as how PR relates to traffic, it is important but not everything. If you have a high PR site, you are much more likely to have a high Google ranking. This affects your organic traffic.

    However, there are tons of other ways to get traffic. BUM marketing is very popular around here, you can also advertise, tweet, blog, video/viral market, the list goes on forever.

    So, don't worry about PR just yet. Just work on building backlinks, keyword optimizing and drawing targeted traffic to your site. Eventually, your PR will increase and you will draw more organic traffic.

    Google doesn't measure traffic to determine pr, the consensus is the number of inlinks and their quality are he biggest factor. The link farm operators can manipulate pr without appreciable traffic.

    Wasn't pr removed from the google toolbar, some took that as a signal that it's value has been depreciated

      Hii,

      PR means page rank is Google's approach to determine page's importance. And it is depended on inbound links to that page. Do not worry about PR.
      It is not necessary that high PR site has good search engine ranking page.
      It might be possible that PR 0 page comes up first in searches.

      Traffice means everything.

      If your site has high PR like PR 5 or above but your site does not getting even single visitor per day or not getting enough business online then what does it mean? Nothing.

      So build quality and well established site. Concentrate on building backlinks.

      Traffic is not everything, it's the only thing.

      If you stop relying on google, and try and figure out ways to get targeted
      traffic on your own, you will eventually win with google as well.
