Multiple Sites on same IP address

We manage 6 websites for a client. One main ecommerce site and 5 small sites that are informative and have links to shop and the main site. The 5 sites are name brands that are owned by our group.

Now they are currently on a dedicated server with the same IP address. Is there any benefit putting these domains on seperate IPs? I have heard conflicting reports. I trust the Warrior Forum to have the right answer.

  • Do you have them linked together or is it just a shared IP?
  • The main site is not linked to the 5 brand sites. The brand sites each point links to the main site. The brand sites do not link to each other.
  • Aharing a server is a totally acceptable practice, just assume interlinking the sites will have no more seo value than internal links wthin a single site. If you had 100s of other backlinks, those 5 more would not have that much effect.
  • No benefits to put sites on different IP's Shared hosting providers normally keep 500-2000 sites within one IP address and many of these sites could be on top of SERP

    • Agree, I've a dedi server and I've ordered additional IP's but those didn't helped at all
  • I've heard that shared hosting works well for regular sites, but it can be a big problem with auto-blogs. I would really like to hear from more people on this.

    • From what I've heard, building backlinks between sites on the same IP address will have absolutely no effect. Google seems to differentiate sites for ranking by IP, not domain.

  • Putting these domain will be beneficial, Now suppose if any one of your site is facing a problem and persists and that might lead to ip ban so that will affect your other sites because of problem in one site. So having different ip is recommended.
