Newbie who is having a problem with Adwords

I know, I know you're probably saying, yeah so what's the big surprise there? A newbie having problem with Adwords. <grin>

I've been gorging myself on the information found on the forums, and I've been working several different avenues trying to see which I enjoy doing and to see which idea might start off making money first. So far to date, I've made $.01. Not off to a good start quite yet. However, I'm optimistic and excited about the possibilities. I'll probably start another thread later with details of some of my other ventures for some help and direction, but in the meantime I have a issue that I might need some input on.

I have signed up for an affiliate program and I have also purchased the resale rights to another. Over the weekend I setup new Adwords campaigns for both products and so far I have had 0 impressions on both campaigns. I'm wondering if I did something wrong?

Oh I should also say that I'm working off my $100 credit from Host Gator for signing up. I'd like to make the most of that credit instead of setting up really broad keyword campaigns and narrowing it down from there. So I did a lot of research on keywords prior to setting up the campaigns.

The first campaign is for my website The AIRiUS Media Lead Generation Machine. I realize now that I've studied further that I should have used a domain name that matches the content better than the one I chose. I'll fix that at a later date or set it up again. After studying all the information I could on Adwords, I wanted to try and limit one of he ad groups to be focusing on specific keywords. So I setup 2 keywords as exact matches and 2 others for broad matches. Also I should state that another reason for limiting the keywords, is because the keywords that relate to this ad/site, are really expensive. ($5.25-$6.50 on the exact keywords)

The second one is for a affiliate program that I ended up getting the exact name of the product in the domain name, but it is a .net domain. On this one I decided to try a banner image campaign because I heard it was cheaper at times. So I uploaded to banner images, which were provided by the affiliate program. Those are currently being reviewed. So no big deal there.

I also created text ads for that site, doing research again and came up with 10 keywords that ranked where I thought it would be successful.

If you were in this boat, what would you do to improve your results? Or improve your success? I want/need to drive traffic to these two sites to recoup my investment and I want to get seed money to keep the ball going.

I appreciate any and all comments. I'm sure there are many ways that I can improve my processes and results. I'm willing to do the work, but I feel like I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks in advance! You guys/gals are awesome!

So you have landing pages and are not trying to compete for the 1 ad slot allowed per direct link.

I certainly would not start with $5 keywords, 1 out of 100 click conversion is not uncommon. ($500 per sale?)

Getting no impressions? examine the quality score of your keywords, might be rollover bubbles that will show the score.

Landing pages have better have contact, privacy, terms and conditions links and text that matches the ad copy and keywords in order to get decent click costs.

REMEMBER the rule of thumb; if you spend twice the product commission, without a sale, shut it down and move on (some gurus say to spend 3x)

0 impressions could be one of the following:

      1. bid price to low or bad quality score
      2. your ad is under review because its a new account
      3. your daily budget is too low

the best thing to do is check and see if your ad is showing for the keyword... if it is showing... then your keyword doesn't get as much traffic as you thought it would.

My daily budget is set at $15 a day, which with the high bid rates I thought would be enough for at least some impressions. However, on the other site that has low bid rates, it's $15 as well. Those bid rates are mostly under $1. So I thought for sure they should be generating impressions.

The ads are showing that they are eligible for display. Only the image banner ads are currently under review.

When you say check to see if your ad is showing for the keyword, how do I do that. Just search Google for the exact keywords and look at the ads? Or is there another way?

        Thanks again for the input.

I'm not sure if this is a question or a statement. At that, I'm not quite sure I understand. The landing page for one of the ads is my own site, so there shouldn't be anyone else direct linking.

I wanted to make sure my keywords were the most accurate to the site information. In my research the keywords I identified were the best matches. However, maybe I should run a day with generic categories selected instead?

The quality scores for the keywords all report no problems. One of the keywords scores 7/10. The others are 3 and 4/10.

Your first website will not float, it is a one page lander, has no support pages about us, contact and other support pages needed / privacy etc. also give it some meat or more content pages, you would also need to make sure its not over hyped / making claims that everybody and their dog can do this while whistling Dixie on the beach.

the site probably needs a more natural make over / and i probably would not run it at all in its current state, nor do i think you will get it to run in it's current state anyway, the second site ? hard to say without seeing it, but if its a boat / or in this case 2 boats, i would scale it back to learning to paddle one boat first, as your campaign will probably take a large chunk of that change to sort or may do / so float one boat at a time, then float another one.
