I was just investigating a websites backlinks, and they have a bunch on blogs like these:

The Allmusic Blog » AllMusic’s Favorite Albums of 2009

Enewslettersuccess

amchamthailand.org

Could someone fill me in on HOW exactly they're getting links on these sites? This person has hundreds of backlinks like these and they are decent PR sites....the examples I gave are all PR5 or 6.

The part where I'm stumped is that these sites have no way to create a public profile, and they have comments closed.......so what the heck is this person doing to get the backlinks? I highly doubt they're contacting the site owners individually....like I said, there's hundreds of these links.

This has gotta be one of those IM secrets I just haven't discovered yet. If anyone can fill me in on what's going on here I would be forever grateful!

Paid links are more common than you may think, old school srtle had site wide blog rolls, more stealthy methods have links in th content of relevant pages. Or maybe like G hopes the sites just liked them enough to link.

Quality links are negotiated, not dropped in the dead of night.

There are individual site owners or network operators you can approach, as well as brokers, detection by big G is the big worry.

Looked at the 2nd one, pr6 with just 42 inlinks (many Joomla related) is impressive.

Welcome to the fine art of HIGH PR Expired Domain Purchasing :-)

These were playing with fire with so few links pointing to them ...

Check the way back machine for these domains - bet they looked a little different a few months ago ...

... fun game to play if you got good BL research skills and a fat wallet.

PR begets PR, and leasing links helps you fund the the continual acquisitions needed.

Ha ... Jack beat me ... I stepped away to grab lunch - an apple ...

So they bought high PR blogs and just linked to themselves? Interesting.

This site that I'm talking about recently took my #1 spot for a profitable keyword phrase (and about half my normal income along with it). My on site content is about 10 times better than theirs and I update it daily, but they beat me with all these damn backlinks, an area that I have little knowledge about.

I don't think I have the funds to buy sites to link to myself like they are doing, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fight off the competition and reclaim my #1 spot? Thanks for all the input guys!

theres folks selling what you need to do for around $67-147 per month

[OPEN] Homepage Backlink Co-op! (limited spots available)

      * Quality PR5, PR4 Home Page Backlinks *

50 or so backlinks on pages like your new competitor has PR3-6 ...

... and so goes the myth that google favors quality content.

Sorry about your sitch, hope this is helping.

You may want to look into advertising on Chitka network for your url/keywords ... I just saw a crazy crazy thing happen ... A competitor had a crap ass site - obviously got an SEO - 301'd a totally new site in over their old POS, and ran an advert on Chitka network.

Apparently the ad code that runs on that network puts backlinks to the advertisers site - over nite. They went from 180 backlinks to over 17,000 links on many many pr5-6 sites/blogs ...

it was crazy! not sure what that ad spend cost - and how long those links will stay - but that was insane!
