Number of articles per site

Hi all,

does the number of articles on your site affect how google will rank you? So far I've found my best ranking site to be those who have numerous posts. The sites where I only have a few articles aren't doing as well. For instance, I recently created an exact domain website and created front page content for the keywords I was targetting. I then created 4 more articles related to seperate keywords. I was ranking pretty well, but have disapeared/reappeared twice. Presently I am not listed in the SERPs as far as I can tell.

Anyways just wondering if I there was a normal minimum of articles you should include on your site.

Thanks!

Yes the size of your site affects ranking. I should clarify that by saying the amount of original content on your site affects your ranking.

I am even pretty sure that you need a certain size of site to get higher PR...

Thanks, so what do you suggest? 5-10 articles on your keywords?

I'm a bit confused as don't some people set up landing pages with only one page of content and get ranked?

      Thanks!

Well clickbump does that. As for PR, yes, each new page on your domain contributes to overall PR system as well as to pages it links to on your domain.

I heard starting with 20 articles on mini-site is a good start.

          Hi all,

just wanted to bump this for more opinions. I thought some people just did simple landing pages, but I could be wrong.

          Thanks!

Nope - content amount nor quality of it, dictates PR ... purely a mathematical formula of ... values assigned to incoming links to your pages. And age.

One of my test sites with nohting but 6 dupe content articles - barely spun - and amazon aff flash widgets - got updated to PR4 last update.

Why? It has a bunch o incoming links and some from friends with PR2 - 3 - 4 -5 and 6 sites. AND - a bunch of incoming profile links.

still ranks in the serps for hell - but we'll get it there and build it out with better content to get better ctr's and traffic.

First order of biz is to get it back on page 1 top 3 ...

But ya ... PR and content are not really related

Until Google changes their algo and they value these inbound links differently.

Let me put it this way - if you create content on a blog that gets a steady flow of traffic WITHOUT any inbound linking (which is easy to do), and you work this up into getting a handsome amount of traffic, then imagine what the domain will get for traffic if you apply the linking strategy mentioned above.

So what I am saying is that for TRUE security, you need to have content that is garnishing solid traffic no matter what Google does with their inbound link algo.

Not saying linking is totally useless, but a strategy purely based on inbounding linking can bite you in the buttocks.

I know......I learned this lesson the hard way 3 years ago. BIG TIME! Had to go back to work for 8 months before we recovered from the hit.

Well, the more articles you have on your site, the better odds you have of getting traffic to that site. A site with only a few articles will not get near the amount of traffic than a site with 1000 articles.

The benefit on having more articles is the possibility of interlinking them and thereby increasing the backlink count without doing off page SEO.

The PR of other pages providing the links will help improve the PR of the page in question and thereby as an overall improve your standing with Google. I have a site with pages all over the place all and little in the way of interlinking. Though there is lots of pages, most of them don't get indexed.

Other things like the quality of the content, site age and so on are all also very important.

yes you must post atleast 20 articles with original content,it works both way.
Firstly it helps to search engine bots to know what type of content you are focusing on or what's your main theme and secondly it make people stay longer at your site and also increase the bounce rate.

Oh YEAH! The more content on the domain the better, and more original the content "looks" the better.

However, if the content is laser targeted better you don't need as much content to get traffic.

Example: A blog with 350 posts with content that is more general in nature (titles, content, lenght of post, etc.) may not do nearly as well as a blog that only has 90 posts on it.

If the smaller blog has posts titled "properly" and is focusing a long-tail keywords, it can easily get more traffic than the 350 post blog.

The ultimate of course is to have a blog with over 3000 posts of original content laser targeting specific long-tail keywords. THAT take time - ALLOT of time if you are not using automation.

No matter how you slice it....making money online requires a serious amount of work over time. I know that is a bummer to hear, but everyone wants the freedom that comes from an online income.

Hope that helps a little bit for ya.
