Is it at the end of this year, or the beginning of the new one? Does anybody know this?

  • Whenever the Big G decides it wants to dance, in other words there is no set time....

    • I thought it happens once every 36 days or something, so the date can be predicted.
  • Nope, very little that Google does is predictable.....
  • There has NOT been a Google dance since 2003

    • Thanks for this post really informative for those of us who weren't in the industry in 2003. Guess many people seem to have misconceived notions about what the "Google Dance" really was. Thanks again for the clarification.
  • Google dance? But I don't have a date yet...

    • Google dance occurs once in month for particular keyword.

It is keyword related. I am doing SEO for my site with 9 keyword. All 9 keywords are in top.
But one keyword is effected by google dance. Suddenly it disappears. After someday it is on top 10. After 1 week it is not in the SERP. So Google dance occurs to particular keyword for one time.
  • If you do instance link building it's likely your site will encounter a google dance, If you don't do any link building your website will NOT encounter a google dance - It has the answer for your question, infer it properly!!!!

    • That would be new news to me, but I guess a shady footprint in your linking strategy could raise red flags.

I honestly don't think big G sticks to any particular pattern, when one person figures out the pattern the rest of the world abuses it

    • You could have stopped right there. It makes no sense.

Don't do any link building? LOL! Yeah. I guess that's good advice for your competitors.

I'll keep link building, thank you!

  • It's unpredictable google can dance at the time they want
  • The Mayans predicted the google dance to be some time in December, 2012. Just sayin'.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Just saw my post count from that last post - can't have 666 posts on Xmas, or I'll lose all my money in 2011. So I'll take this time to second Paul's comment, and also add that whenever the band plays, google likes to tango.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Can you two please explain the refernces above to there not being a Google dance since 2003?
Nope. That was true many yrs ago but they don't do it anymore.

I wish more of my competitors would come here to get their SEO advice ...

  • This is quite an interesting thread going here.

The Google dance doesn't happen to everybody at the same time. And the 'Google dance' is just a term used to describe the fluctuation or disappearance of your search engine rankings for whatever reason.

Most of the time this only happens to new sites. I have never, ever experienced what you call, the 'google dance' on a site that's established. This has only happened to me after the first week or so that my new sites get indexed.

There's nothing you can do about the google dance, if it's going to happen, it's going to happen whether you like it or not.

Some say, and I believe this too, the 'google dance' is when a website is put into some kind of evaluation or review phase to judge the quality of the site. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure they just remove, or decrease your rankings during this period of time so they can be sure your site belongs in their search engines and isn't a threat to Google users.

Trust me, google dances aren't scheduled, they don't happen regularly to everybody. The Google dance is a per website thing, and there's nothing you can do except for anticipate it and not freak out when your site's been live for only a week and then it disappears.

    • Thats NOT what the Google dance is! You also confusing it with the mythical sandbox. Thats is just fluctuations in the rankings of a site.

  • I know you didn't just say that to me. OK, obviously you did. And so I guess I'm supposed to take the opinion piece blog posts you linked to as THE FINAL WORD on what in the bloody hell a google "Dance" actually is? So if I write a post on my site tomorrow that states emphatically "global warming is a lie" and link to it in a post here, we can all stop worrying about those pesky fossil fuels and freak hurricanes, yes?

The "Dance" is nothing, no such thing, and I know this. What you call the "Dance" in those articles is just a term used to describe the phenomenon you (or the author) were explaining in those articles. What IS happening is sites DO fluctuate and behave exactly as Adam eluded to in his reply, during the first few weeks of a new site almost exclusively, if not far more than they do once the domain is aged. Is your position that this doesn't happen? Am I clear yet? Cuz if that is your position you're dead wrong. It happens on the regular.

What we are talking about here IS NOT the obvious routine position change of sites that happens normally, or as result of contributing issues.

Pretty much anyone with their heads NOT up their ##@$ knows this, so it makes no sense for you to come swooping in a harmless thread, armed with a few links to Op/Ed pieces and then spew holier than thou one liner commandments. It does nothing to help or inform. For instance:

OPINION: RESPONSE: The man just finished saying that what he described as "the google dance" is just a term... Get it? It's a phrase people say to quickly describe a phenomenon they see occur with their sites, and it's caught on. No reason for you to come swooping through telling anyone they're wrong about semantics, because that IS WRONG. Just explain, sans links, why you're right, and leave it at that. Forums contain opinions mate, and like a$$holes, everyone has one.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • You making stuff up. Anyone who was around in SEO prior to 2003 knows exactly what the term 'Google Dance' was used for. You making stuff up to change its meaning.

    • Dude, you should really just stop while you're ahead. You have not added any value what so ever to this thread.

I can't believe you said Peter and I, or Peter, whoever you're talking about there, is making stuff up. That was just completely uncalled for and and is absolutely WRONG.

      What?
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • Excuse me? What, no really, what in blue hell are you on about? I'm simply explaining to you that what people TODAY are describing as "the google dance" is an adapted phrase used to describe the situations they see their sites experience TODAY, not 2003, not 1967 either. I'm not making a damn thing up.

Would you like the people experiencing the site fluctuations they are experiencing to stop calling it a "google dance"? If so, start a petition, write your congressman, maybe you can pass a law and site owners will be forced to call their issue "The Google Doodle Do".

Further, what I'm saying is that you came in this thread to argue semantics over an issue of substance, and that does nothing to help the problem of dramatic site fluctuations, which does happen. If OP took your word for it, he'd walk away thinking it wasn't happening and that he was hallucinating his site jumping positions, because apparently "it stopped in 2003".

You're stance has nothing to do with the issue. You're arguing apples and elephants, and doing it for about an hour now. It's getting old.
