Blog Commenting- Name or keywords

Hey guys, just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on using names as the anchor text when blog commenting.

Using your name makes you appear human, but your links won't be as relevant as if you use your keyword.

But if you use your keyword, it appears spammy.

I've seen some people do "name @ keyword". What are your guys's experience with this

With my link building services i use keywords, because although you may only get half the approval amount it is more then 2x effective for the keyword you trying to rank for in the serps

What do you think about the "@" strategy? It does dilute the kw density a bit but I figure more people approving it would balance it out.

If your posting to auto approve blogs, use your keyword. Otherwise using a name will yield a higher approval rate.

Also some webmasters set their comment approval policy to auto approve after the first moderated comment gets through. Something you can try is to post a good comment which you know will get approved then after post another comment on the same domain using your keyword after you get auto approval status.

Most of the time when using a keyword, a blog owner won't approve your comment, but if you don't anchor the text correctly, its a very lame backlink that may not get approved anyway! Best case scenario is to always just use the keywords, and if you set ur quota for the day at 30 or 40 or whatever, just dont count it any time u see blog owner approval pending.

no it doesn't appear spam. in face using your name in the name field which will link to your website page will look irrelevant. usage of keyword is the best way.

Blog commenting is for backlinks, keyword traffic and it also helps for SERP ranking.

So there is no use of giving name instead of keyword.

I am also confuse about this topic...
If we post a comment with name then its a useless link for the search engine because it has no keyword.

Would this really depend on the purpose of your commenting? Are you building backlinks or trying to get a targeted reader base at your blog?

I have also seen links inside the blog posts them self. This may be a handy technique AFTER you get a approval of one comment.

This tip seems so simple that it's hard to imagine I never thought of it. But I never did. I set up a new Google account and am beginning to fill the list with blogs relative to my niche sites. I've already posted to a few and established which ones have "opened the door" for me after approving my first post.

I have no intention of spamming and will leave legitimate comments, but to me this is not only a great source for back links but a good source for some direct traffic, too as the blogs and their visitors are likely to be fairly well targeted to my content.

Unless my comment policy on a site states otherwise, I flag keyword anchored comments as Akismet spam. Many other bloggers have the same policy. I used to be more lenient but due to the heavy use of automated spamming tools I have to take a harder stance.

The @ sign thing is usually used with the KeywordLuv plugin but not always. If you see a number of other people using it, then it's generally OK.

Overall, you'll be better off using a name. Not only will this increase your approval rate but it will provide you with branding and link diversity. Save the keyword anchors for situations where you have more control, such as article and bookmarking submissions.

its good to use keyword in the name field to get more results. using your name in name field is of no worth. it also seems irrelevant when you anchor that name with your web page.

I only use 'anchor text' names on auto approve blogs. Other than that I'll use names.

Include your keyword if only the blog is auto approve.Otherwise make a comment that make sense and highly useful otherwise if you use your keyword then your comment will not approved.

no one will aprove comment from MR. "cheap nike shoes" it only works with AA blogs but they are usually spammed to death.

"name @ keyword" strategy is useless... - but if you want to get to top1 for smothing like "John @ Blue Pill" should be good : P

Mine is name. I find it easy to create back links from it and not considered as spam so I get permanent back links.

Using keyword as a name is good for backlink purposes eventually moderator will reject your comment as it is look promotional and a bit spammy. Just try to make your comment relevance and nice, and look for a related blogs so the chance that your commenting will be rejected is only a little.

Depends on the comment policy of the blog. If they allow keywords to be used as names then shoot (mostly on KeywordLuv enabled blogs or if you noticed that other commentators are using keywords), if not, it's best to use your real name.

Using your name has its own advantages as well such as:

    - higher chances of getting the comment approved by the moderator
    - building trust to search engine crawlers
    - higher chances of building a relationship with the siteowner/webmaster, which often leads to a better link acquisition (through in-content mention or thematic link exchange)
    - branding

I have a 2 question to ask about blog comment. If i make a comment without my keyword does it add to my backlink? If you have more than one blog, how do you promote them by using comment? Do you put all the link at once or you comment separately?

yes with or without a keyword in anchor text...a link still counts as a backlink...you need to comment separately for different blogs as comment gives you a single link, unlike forum signatures.

Personally, I stop using keywords when I leave a blog comment on someone else's blog because:

      1) I am a blog owner myself and I really hate comments with the keyword on it
      2) For blog commenting, I focus on the PR and not the keyword ranking
      3) It will expose my name to people who I consider as my target market - thus if I leave a good comment on an authority blog, it will boost my credibility as well
      4) I just hate spamming other people's blogs

If you really want to target a keyword, put up a "doorway" site. An about me page or something similar to that that have your links in it with your target anchor keywords.

Use that page when you are leaving a comment using your name on blogs. This will pass the juice on your about me page which will then pass juice on your links with your keyword in it.

Use your keyword every time, even if you have to put "Wendy the XBOX 360 Chick" as your anchor make sure your keyword is there. Other wise blog commenting is just too much work for no keyword anchor text.
