Different SERP Positions In Different Countries

Hi Everyone
I was just wondering if anyone had some input into this.
I rank number 1 for a keyword on google.co.uk but then when i search on google,com for the same keyword it doesnt appear until page 4. Is there a reason for this and should I be doing anything different other than build more links. Hope You guys can help.
