Does profile backlinks work anymore?

I know profile backlinks worked two years ago and well. I have created quite a lot profile backlinks and proper 200 word long profile text (each unique text) couple of months ago and mostly of them are indexed in Google and they also appear in Google websmaster tool. I have not seen any changes in my site ranking in Google. Maybe it takes a little more time or maybe those profile backlinks are worthless. What do you think?

@dilemma - I still believe profile links help. It may not be the most desirable link type, but a link is still a link in my book.

I'll be the the third person to chime in that you should diversify your link building efforts for maximum results.

Still working for me, they work great in fact. But I think some diversity helps to, like articles and bookmarks. Not just profile links.

They still work but I see them losing their effectiveness...

You will see the result when google update their ranking system.I have found linkwheel really useful for now than the profile backlinks.
