I'm in the SandBox!!!!

Well, I'm a newbie first of all.
I started to build a site one month ago, Google index my site long time ago, recently started to rank my site. I jumped from page 32 to 25 slowly. The keyword I'm targeting has a medium competition, 500 searches a day. I was happy that Google finally started to put my site in SERPs. I didn't pay much attentions to Yahoo and Bing rankings. This morning, I happened to search my keyword on both of these search engines. Wow! my site rank #1 in Yahoo, #3 in Bing. My first response is that, SANDBOX!! is real.

1. Can someone has the same experience tell me how can I get out of sandbox quickly? I can't wait to see my site to rank firs page in Google.

2. I used Market Samurai to do my keyword research. The keyword should bring me 200 visitors a day from Google if I rank first. What number of visitors do I expect to get from Yahoo for ranking first?
#search engine optimization #sandbox
  • 39 per day from Yahoo.
  • Some people that know waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than me think that sandbox effect does not exist.

Just one more Internet Marketing myth?
  • can some one please explain in easyenglish what sandbox is i keep hearing it and wondering what it means thanks.

    • I did do some search on this topic. A new site is going to be putting in Sandbox by Google, also means that you are not going to rank well for a long time, until you gain trust of Google, or you can wait for 6 months to get out of sandbox.
But there gotta be a way out, I'm still trying to figure out.
    • Some of the ways to get quick out the so called "SANDBOX"

-Send your sitemap to Google Webmaster tool
      -Build Quality backlinks
-Be aware of Robots.txt on your site, which prevent search engine robots (spiders) from crawling specific pages in your website.
      -Quality content in your site
  • Commit to sending regular quality links to your site on a regular basis. Not too many links but rather on a regular basis.

  • Hello there. Just thought I should help you understand the sandbox effect...
Even Google denies the existence of the sandbox. We have come to the understanding that there is "something" similar to a sandbox IN Google when for instance backlinking to a site is beeing done, too fast that is... To prevent this you should link up tp the highest PAGERANK sites you find. Three per day in the beginning or so. Overdoing it will get you sandboxed. How I define the term? Antispam from -Google?

"The only way to go about it is to wait or buy a high pagerank domain which was an expiring one and link directly to it. I have not tried this but it is said to work."

Anyway when you have your site high in Google the one day and the other day page 16 then DO NOT PANIC. Googlebots will check your site you know. If you then choose to build backlinks like crazy then you will use a long time getting back to your ORIGINAL position. Take your time and do only minor changes. The sandbox was a warning Give it two or three weeks and it will get back up. Maybe even sooner... Or worst case scenario later. Nevertheless it will get back up.

    • Thanks for the tip, I will try.
  • Wait a minute. The whole thing makes NO sense. I mean none.

You have a month old site.
Then claim that google indexed your site a LONG TIME ago.
Go further to say that you are slowly climbing.
End the post with being near the top in yahoo/bing.

    Then claim you are sandboxed????????????????????

    On what planet?

Oh how I wish there really WAS a sandbox....

    • Sandbox only exist in Google, therefore I'm ranking high in yahoo, but low in Google is a clear mark that I'm sandboxed by Google

I need to give Dr. Saulat and his amazing sandbox protection charms a rest so that everyone else doesn't start using them to defeat the Google sandbox.

  • I have possibly experienced "reverse sandbox", one of my sites was at the top of google when it was initially indexed (albeit for a not particularly popular keyword) when it had no backlinks, and then fell in the rankings. I have got sites to page 1 in the first few months for keywords. The keywords I target initially are usually under 10000 hits/month so maybe that is why.
  • i personally think that the sandbox effect exists. I would recommend that you continue developing your website and building some links slowly over time. You should eventually come out of it without any problems.. It really just takes time my friend.
  • Here's a piece of advice...

Stop worrying about things that you can't control! It will only drive you crazy.

Sandbox or no sandbox, just keep doing the things that you know works (without trying to cheat the system) and you will eventually get the results you want.
  • the sandbox isnt real GTFO
  • Hogwash re: "SANDBOX!! is real."

Never seen Google label anything with "Sandbox."

Having heard both sides of the story, I'll believe it when I see it. If you could point us to the Google web page showing the "Sandbox" it'll put this debate to final rest.
  • The sandbox IS real. I know this because one of my sites got in it. Never happened with my other sites. I know I'm right - prove me wrong.
  • The sandbox is a myth. Its just an excuse used by those with crap sites that can not get them ranked.
  • If you do not want this domain you can sell it to me.

  • One of the possible reasons for getting sandbox by Google is probably getting too much same type of links(same sources) too quickly for a new site.

To get out of sandbox quickly, you just need to get links from authority sites like ezinearticles.com, press release sites and other high PR sites which can prove to Google that your new website is trusted by authority sites.
  • BinBinWu what do you think you have done some thing rapid which could be the reason for being sandboxed?

    Sandboxed= Google Penalty

Why would any one say it doesn't exists.

  • I have a site like that
Ranks no 1 in yahoo and bing

Does not appear to be in the top 1000 in Google

    I really hate google
  • The site is just dancing around in Google Search. Just make Quality backlinks regularly.
  • I'm not a believer in the "sadbox". It's purely just quality of links coming back, although Google do throw some anomalies out there. I think you should concentrate on some highly relevant back links using your target keyword and two variations of that keyword, so you're getting back links for three keywords to the same domain. This will work. What links are you getting right now?
  • Frankly, you need to chill and let a little time elapse. The more you thrash around the more you prolong the so-called sandbox effect which is really Google trying to figure out where to rank your site, i.e. short term phenomenon or a real mover.
  • Thank God you're talking about the Google Sandbox!!! I imagined you we're a surfer and got smashed into a sandbox while surfing a shallow and heavy sandbar!!

    Dude, relax.

THERE IS something where Google puts some sites to get fresh air. New sites especially. Perhaps is sandbox, perhaps it's just a corner on the street where sites have to prove they deserve to be seen.

    Whatever.

Work the site focused on WHAT people want - he'll be seen and grab good rankings.

    Have a blast in 2011!!

    • Because a true google penalty would be a de-index.
Rewarding other sites is NOT a penalty. Liking other sites more is NOT
a penalty. In order to actually get a penalty, YOU would have had to have
      done something, NOT google.

If you think being ranked #25 after a month is a friggin penalty, then what
does that say about the poor sap who ranks #26? #50? #75? They must have got
      the double-secret-sandbox!!!

I hope Fernando does not mind me picking this out because it's pretty good:

  • I've got a couple sites currently bouncing around as well. One of them will show up on the 1st page of Google for a day or two, then disappear for a couple days and come back even higher. In the past week, it's bounced from the first page to the 7th page to the 3rd page, then back to the first page.

It's frustrating if you haven't been through it before, but keep building quality links and putting good content on your site and it'll find its spot in the rankings as it ages a bit.
  • It's funny, I've found that the more links I have to my site, the less the 'sandbox' seems to exist...
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • It sounds like you are basing your assumption that you are in the "sandbox" on the fact that you are ranking high in Yahoo and Bing but not in Google, however the algorithms used to rank sites are vastly different.

Just because you rank high in Yahoo does not mean you will rank high in Google, therefore I think your assumption may not be correct.
  • Whether there is a sandbox or not, no one can really say. But there definitely is what's called "google dance". This is where you'll bounce around the search results for awhile until Google can figure out where to place you. Settling down with only come as the site matures.

The most important thing is to try and build links consistantly, and to try to get matured domains if possible.

    • Hi Guys,

The "sandbox effect" is actually a filter where Google will stop you ranking as well until it decides what to do with your site. This is very similar to the Google dance , but will do it for your whole site. It does this mainly on new sites to stop spammers.

This could be down to a number of factors such as changing your sites seo or building links too quick.

Keep building links and your ranking will come back eventually.

      Rob

  • Well if it's any comfort, I'd gladly join you in the sandbox.

I have the opposite problem. My site is 3 months old and I rank decently on Google, but Yahoo and especially Bing I feel I am non-existent.

    • I feel like I may have got put in the sandbox, or slapped in some way, below is my situation let me know what you think.

      - The site is about 4 months old.
      - I got it on the 1st page for my keyword after about 2 months.
      - It maintained between the 5-8th position for the last 2 months.
      - Last week, I started doing a lot of social bookmarking and a little article submission.
      - This week my site went to #278 in rankings...

The only thing I can figure is; since I hadn't done much social bookmarking before, that I did too much all at once and it raised a red flag.

Any thoughts on this situation?
