Mommy Blog Needs help!

Hi All
I have been writing a blog on the blogger platform for a little over a year now. Currently I get 1600 unique visitors and 3000 pageviews monthly. About 75-80% of my visitors come from organic google results. The blog earns $40-$65 a month from adsense and amazon.
I obviously would like to increase the amount of visitors but have been told that it is a waste of time since the blog is a blogger or blogspot blog. Is this true? What should I do? move to wordpress? Can I do anything to stay on blogger and increase visitors? Should I invest in SEO for blogger or not? Help is really appreciated!
