How important is domain age?

Hey guys,
I know it's one of Google's factors and all, my question is how important it is. What kind of weight does a domain age has on its results in SERPS? (I know about SEO, I'm asking as part of the process of it).

I have a chance to buy a domain that is 9 years old for not too much money, should I get it and then make the site an affiliate to one of the products I promote or should I buy a new one with keywords in the domain? It's a thought...

Also, have a site which has a few years on the web as well with a PR 4 and only now thinking of doing something with it that will bring in some money, think it holds a good potential? (again, SEO work will be done of-course, asking about relevancy of domain age and PR to Google in this case).

Thank you all!

You can choose keyword with new domain name. Since for Search result it will take less time to rank better. And build quality backlinks for the new website.

If you have automated backlinking methods you can blast thousands of links at aged sites and barely experience any Google dance. If you go with a newly registered domain you will have to build links more slowly. I usually dont have the patience to build links slowly for new domains so now I go with aged. An added bonus is that with a 9 year old domain it probably had some Page Rank in its past and if you start slamming it with backlinks, its PR will go up fast. So if you dont end up making money with it, you can always sell it down the road because its 9yrs old and the PR most likely has increased.

This is exactly what I've found as well. Aged domains, especially if they have prior content and backlinks already built, can take a lot more, and actually need a lot less work to get ranking.

I dont pay much attention to the pr of my sites (only if im using them to backlink others) but this is a great point

i think old domains have more back links to it than a new domain, its the advantage as I understand

Those are good answers, I see there are advantages to aged domains, and it seems I can do something with my 9 year old site with PR 4, so you're saying blasting it with backlinks now will be ok and PR will be able to get higher faster in this case?

It is NOT one of the things that google looks at, nor cares about.

Just because it takes a while to do things in no way means the age matters.

Plenty of sites can (and do) go viral overnight. Domain age is not a factor for
anything, except maybe domain sellers trying to con you.

Don't read more than what I said: domain age has nothing to do with anything.

I think age of domain has no priority, the all thing is around backlinks. you can add quality backlinks to new domain and have a good PR too.
