Backlinks And Keywords

I got into SEO a while ago and then moved on to other things. Now I'm interested in it again. The technique I'm familiar with involves targeting a specific keyword and creating a website with the site's name, domain, content all built around that one keyword. Everything is done so that when someone types that specific keyword into Google, the site you built will be right there on page one. Of course backlinks are involved too but getting backlinks isn't the central idea.

When you build backlinks and do other things to increase your site's search engine rankings, are you all targeting specific keywords or is that a unique technique I learned? Say you've got tvstore.com that sells TV's or has info about TVs and some ads on it or whatever. You start building links to your site. What's your specific goal? Are you trying to get your site on page one when someone searches for a specific keyword, like "tvs for sale" or are you just hoping that it will rank highly for any TV related keyword that gets enough searches that you'll make some money?

That doesn't always work. Especially depending on the age of the domain. I've done similar to what you are doing and have had varied results with a decent amount of work put in. Especially if the keyword is very dense and all the big boys are on the first 3 pages!

You should always do your research and target keywords...Without keyword research I think it is just a waste of time building sites without knowing how successful they can be. I always do research and have had a great amount of success. And even with a heavy keyword focused site, you will still need backlinks if there is even a little competition for the word, if you plan to rank quickly.

I find there are keywords that you end up ranking for that you didn't expect, yet bring excellent traffic. I may start out with a goal in mind, but other opportunities invariably arise.

Also keep in mind the competition of your keyword during your research. Heavy competition can make it more difficult to rank.

For sure, you always do your research first to make sure there isn't too much competiton. Tvstore.com was just an example, I don't actually own that domain. Naturally you don't want too much competition from big corporations. What I'm asking about is a situation where you have an existing site that you want to bring more organic search engine traffic to. It's already got its content and everything. You're gonna want to build backlinks, but then what? Do you just use a code from statcounter.com or a similar site to track which search terms are getting people to your site? Or do you also start changing the content to target specific keywords?

It really depends on the keywords. I agree with the above statements that there are competition of keywords and if you win this competition you will definitely get to the top rank.

Keyword research is both difficult and tricky. The only way to effectively refine your list is to test it in practice. Use some keyword research tools to help you identify what your competitor is already ranking for. Don’t forget to check your competitor’s PPC keywords. Use keyword prominence tools (to analyze which terms the site is optimized for) and analyze your competitors’ website visitors behavior (“Keyword Engagement” and “Keyword Effectiveness”).

SEO is strange thing. If you do not have good content, keywords, and then the sites of **** to win. If you have good sites, so they tend to win because they get to connect.
