Any proof that linkwheel is effective?

I don't know who invented the linkwheel and I am not also sure if this is effective. I've been promoting websites since 2003 nd have success in my own way but never tried linkwheel.

I have a specific questions for some warriors who are actually doing this.

Assuming I have 10 article directories, 20 web 2.0, and some blogs and forums ready to post my url, why I have to create a linkwheel instead of linking my main sites directly to these sites? Does it make a difference?

Thanks

I'm not a "link wheel" expert but I think it creates more diversity in your incoming links while adding more content that could rank?

Well it is effective in my opinion but it's nothing special.

The more links you have to your site the better.
The better the page is that is linking to you the better.

You can control both of those using a link wheel.

It's just a fancy way to describe an approach to building links. But the key I think is the quality involved. If you hire someone that knows nothing about your niche to make a bunch of links and think it will all the sudden send you to #1, you are probably going to be proved wrong. If you keep quality in mind, over time "something" good is going to happen for you.

Yes, for example, if you are going to make a Squidoo lens, make it worthwhile, so people actually like it. I made one about my directory script and it seems to be generating some traffic. I also have a blogger blog and a wordpress blog, and have some cross linking.

Joseph A and Pat Flynn have both used variations on the link wheel and were both able to rank #1 for their keywords, so the technique does work, definitely. Jury is still out on whether it works for premier, top-tier keywords.

It works. I suggest you to make it with web 2.0 properties like squidoo, hubpages, blogger, wordpress, livejournal and posterous. Cross link this sites and you will see fast results in about 2 weeks!

Creating a link wheel that points to your site as well as to the other web 2.0 property will help in indexing all of the pages in the wheel since after a page has been crawled, it will go to your site and the other web 2.0.

Just don't create an easy footprint for Google to follow.

I've used link wheels to some of my local sites and it is really effective on ranking keywords with low to medium competition.

      I put it this way:

If you were to run as a president (your site)

Person A votes for you - but no referrers (a backlink)
Famous Guy votes for you - Alot of referrers and fans (the link wheel)

Would you trust "Person A" more than "Famous Guy"? I hope you see my point.

Agreed with this one. The point here is not only the individual can brought your site up its the company or groups that will send your site to #1 in google.

"Linkwheels" do work, yes. Though the general consensus seems to be that they are more effective when designed/built more asymmetrically than what they would have to be to resemble any sort of nice, neat "wheel" (or any other easily describable and illustratable structure).

The more predictable they are, it seems, the more easily Google can root them out and reduce or eliminate the power they have to offer towards boosting your search-engine rankings.

So try not to get too caught up in all the hokeypoke about having to build them a particular way, because the more widely duplicated a particular linkwheel structure becomes, the more focus Google is likely to place on tweaking their algorithms to detect and devalue them.

As long as you have linked together a good number of related pages on a good number of properties (and perhaps to numerous "levels"), you should see that the backlinks you eventually build to your site(s) from them are much more powerful than if you'd simply built them to your sites directly and independently.

I am about to build my first linkwheel. Can anyone explain what is meant by open Wheel?

From what I have understood so far, I need to put content on Squidoo and hubpages and link them to each other and also to my money site.

Would be grateful for any guidance.

Here's a link to Pat Flynn's description of his link wheel: THE Backlinking Strategy That Works

The cool thing about that is that his niche site address is public (securityguardtraininghq.com), so you can run some tools against it and analyze it. I've learned more from tracking his progress through Market Samurai than from anything else I've done.

Now, I see two advantages to this approach. The first is that you can have links from the same domains to each of your Web 2.0 properties. I assume that Google places much weight on the first link from a domain, then comparitively less for each additional. Otherwise, when forum signature links hit 10s of thousands, you'd jump right to #1. Anyhow, multiple hub sites like that let you re-use the same domains and still get full juice.

The second advantage - and the one I don't see anyone talking about - is that you can move the juice to a different site if you need to. Say you're using a brand-name domain, and you get a C&D from the company. With a single-layer structure, you have to start completely over with your SEO with a new domain. With a link wheel, you only have to change the links on you hubs to point to the new domain, and you're up and running again much more quickly.

Finally, to answer a previous question, an "open wheel" has each hub site separate from each other, while a "closed wheel" has them linked to each other.

As he said, you don't need to link your squidoo lens to your hubpage. No need for a ring.

Link wheels is an old concept, the first I saw talk about this was Michael Campbell in nothing but net.

When web 20 came out, the name changed, that's it.

It works. I made thousands of dollars from this with blogs and product launches. This allowed me to jumpstart my online business... and also pay my bills at that time!

Linkwheel is still effective (both content based linkwheels and profile linkwheels), I tried both linkwheels for my sites and found good results.

Why we create linkwheel instead of simple backlinks to money site?
Just for the purpose of getting more Linkjuice
One web 2.0 will be transferring its linkjuice to the Second web 2.0 and to your money site and that second web 2.0 will also sending link to your money site, so your site will getting maximum power. An environment of niche-related backlink is create artificially.

There are different models for linkwheels being used by the people. Some people consider open-ended linkwheels as best and some people favors closed-ended linkwheels. Both kind of linkwheels work but choice is yours. Concept of mininet is also derived from here.

    Thanks
