TUTORIAL With Screenshots: Here is How To Build Sites That Google LOOOOVEs!

In this short tutorial we’re going to see how to build a powerful niche website that Google loves. To do this we will extract some data from the very useful options panel of Google search.

Please note that this is not an exact science and the model explained below is only one model among others. It works very well but I do not claim that it is THE ultimate model.

That being said I believe the step by step explanations will be very useful to some people, especially to those of you just starting out (experienced site builders might learn a few things too).

The Google options we will use are not available in all countries, so to ensure you can follow along, use this version of Google:

Google

In this example, we’re going to pursue the “bowling balls” niche. This tutorial is not about market research or keyword research so I won’t explain how and why I have decided to target this niche.

When you want to build a new website, the first thing to do is to find related and relevant themes in the eyes of Google. Ideally you should start a new niche website with a minimum of 10 articles and add new articles on a regular basis.

Now the question is: “How to find relevant themes in the eyes of Google?”

Let Google tell us… Type “bowling balls” in the search box and submit your query. Then make sure to disable the instant results by selecting “Instant is off”:

Then click on “More search tools” like in the screenshot below:

Then click on “Related searches” in the left sidebar:

Now just look at the top of the screen, you will get ideas for different themes:

So thanks to the Related searches option we now have 6 themes (Our main theme + 5 others):
  • Bowling balls
  • Bowling shoes
  • Bowling games
  • Bowling shirts
  • Bowling tips
  • Bowling bags

Those themes will later become categories for the site.

Note that even though the keyword we are after is related to bowling balls, we WANT to have content about bowling shoes, games, shirts, tips and bags. This will make our site very relevant to bowling balls (in the eyes of Google) and will help us to outrank other sites while building much less backlinks than them.

If you don’t believe me, watch this video where I have proved this once and for all:
Easy Video Player ยป PART 5 Checking The Competition

We now need to find the topics for the articles that are going to populate our site.

Let’s build a list of related keywords for our 6 themes.

Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

(Quick note: The Adwords team and the Organic team are 2 different entities. So the 2 algorithms behind Google Search and the Google Adwords Keyword Tool are completely different. Both teams try to find the most relevant terms to one keyword through their work but it is possible that what Adwords says is relevant to your keyword is NOT what Google Search thinks. So why use this tool instead of the wonderwheel and the related searches options of Google Search? First – this Adwords tool gives us much more data and ideas. And secondly both teams are very competent and their results tend to be the same, or at least very similar).

Select the language and country you’re targeting, enter your 1st theme in the keyword box, check the “Only show ideas closely related to my search terms” option, enter the captcha code if any and click on the search button.

Then make sure the returned keywords are sorted by Relevance and select a minimum of 3 keywords (5 being better) that are not TOO similar. For example if you look at the ones I selected below, I didn’t take “discount bowling balls” because it is too similar to “cheap bowling balls”.

Also when you do this, do NOT take the search volume and the competition level into account. The article topics we are selecting now are going to help us build a website ULTRA relevant to the main keyword we are targeting, so competition level is not an issue at all at this stage.

Let’s do the same thing for the other themes… (I won’t show you screenshots as it’s exactly the same process).

My list of article topics is:

Bowling balls:
  • bowling balls for sale
  • cheap bowling balls
  • custom bowling balls
  • storm bowling balls
  • kids bowling balls
Bowling shoes:
  • cheap bowling shoes
  • dexter bowling shoes
  • kids bowling shoes
  • bowling shoes for women
  • linds bowling shoes
Bowling games:
  • free bowling games
  • bowling games online
  • bowling games for kids
  • fun bowling games
  • 3d bowling games
Bowling shirts:
  • retro bowling shirts
  • custom bowling shirts
  • cheap bowling shirts
  • bowling shirts for men
  • vintage bowling shirts
Bowling tips:
  • bowling tips and techniques
  • bowling tips for beginners
  • bowling tips video
  • fast bowling tips
  • bowling tips from the pros
Bowling bags:
  • bowling bags on sale
  • cheap bowling bags
  • bowling bags with wheels
  • storm bowling bags
  • brunswick bowling bags

We now need to create articles for these topics and publish them on our site.
We basically have 3 different options:

Option 1: Write the articles ourselves
Option 2: Pay someone to write the articles
Option 3: Leverage free content

Options 1 & 2 are pretty straightforward so I will not cover them here. They are the BEST options if you have enough money or time to invest.

However option 3 is also very powerful if done correctly. And this is what we are going to cover here.

Leveraging Free Content

What we are going to do is take articles already published on article directories. We will NOT break the TOS of those article directories as we will let the author boxes intact with the links made active.

But what we are going to do is add a block of unique text above and a block of unique text below those articles.

Let me show you this for the 1st topic of the “bowling balls” theme.

The topic is “bowling balls for sale”.

So we go to Google and type this in the search box:

Bowling balls for sale site:ezinearticles.com

You can do this with other article directories. What it does is return the most relevant articles for your search term from and only from the site that is after the site: command. So in our example it will return all the articles that are relevant to “Bowling balls for sale” and that are published on ezinearticles.com

The 1st one in the results being considered the most relevant one by Google.

As you can see it’s not 100% relevant to what we want. If you are not satisfied with the result, just repeat this search with other article directories.

Let’s do this with goarticles.com for example.

This one looks much better. We now need to take this article. Almost all the article directories allow you to download those articles easily. On goarticles.com just click on “Publish article”:

It allows you to copy the article with the HTML tags already placed where needed.

We then have to add a header and a footer around this article to make it unique (well not completely unique but unique enough to be able to rank that page more easily). Adding a header and a footer will also allow us to add our topic’s keyword making it even more optimized than the original article.

Here is how it would look like (note that I’m not a writer and furthermore I’m French so I apologize if my header / footer blocks are crappy – it’s just an example):

Finding a bowling ball that fits your style is not always an easy task. You need to find one with a good weight, not too heavy, not too light, with holes big enough and spaced well enough for your fingers.

You can of course just use the bowling balls put at your disposal in the bowling clubs but you would then have to content yourself on what is available which could handicap you.

On the other hands bowling balls for sale are often quite expensive. If you have the budget though, don’t hesitate to purchase your own ball as it would definitely help you being a better bowler. I have found this article from John Tasher that could also give you a few ideas:

Did you notice that John had a link titled bowling balls for sale? I didn’t check his site but maybe he offers good prices.

Anyway I hope you liked this article. You can also read our other articles if you need to find some good bowling balls (NOTE: and here you put a link to your bowling balls category).

I wrote those header and footer blocks very quickly. I didn’t have to make any research, I just wrote what I thought without knowing anything about the topic.

The advantage of this approach is that it allows you to build sites pretty quickly without having to pay for content. You just leverage the content that has already been written by other experts.

You of course have to do this for ALL the article topics that you have found in the steps above but I can guarantee that it’s much faster than writing the articles yourself and much cheaper than paying someone for writing them for you!

In some cases it can even give you better results than writing the articles yourself because those experts you are borrowing articles from have (sometimes) made some indepth research.

Instead of browsing the article directories yourself, select the articles, write different header and footer blocks and then publish them on your site (which takes time) you can check the WSO of a fellow warrior (Oz aka SMS).

He released a wordpress plugin some times ago that does exactly that. I don't have the exact url but with a search in the WSO section you should find it easily. The plugin is called Wordpress Easy Content (WPEC)

Hope you liked this short tutorial, if you have any question don’t hesitate to ask.

UPDATE 2011/01/08

The "Related Searches" option has disappeared from the Google side bar for a few days now... Don't let this stop you, there are many other ways to find related topics by using Google.

I have posted one of those methods here.

UPDATE 2011/01/11

If you want to monetize your sites with adsense make sure to only use unique content as stated by MarkTX in this post. Else you could seriously get banned from the Adsense program.

  • Vitavee,

That is a fantastic tutorial! Honestly...people are so busy looking for the next big thing, that they forget the basics.

I too have WPEasyContent...it is possibly my favorite tool of 2010.

    1) What I like to do is make my good original posts into pages. I make 4-5 really high quality original articles and make them highly visible in the sidebar.

    2) I make my Wordpress landing page, a page, not post.

    3) Then I have a blog in the backend and I create hundreds of posts with WPEC...that drip out 2-3 per day.

My goal is to get people to click over to one of the 5 high-quality articles in the sidebar, which presell a product. On some sites I will have an opt-in form at the top of the sidebar.

Great recommendation....WPEC is a sweet tool!

Thanks Rusty, your plan looks awesome. I'm doing something quite similar but instead of preselling products I'm preselling my newsletters.

  • Thank you also from me for such a nice tutorial.

And no matter that you are saying that this article is not specific about KW research I think that there are quite important tips which includes KW research. When it comes to KW research and choosing them I'm always get a little confused, because I am consider myself just a beginner in Internet marketing, and I do not know a lot of things yet.

  • I don't understand why you would think that this is classed as unique (or acceptably unique) content?

Why does writing an introduction and recap change things? It's still the same content at the end of the day and is probably published on lots of different places, plus you've got outgoing links stealing your traffic.

I have seen this plugin and thought this very thing at the time - this is not a good long term strategy to me.

The main part of getting any site to rank is in the back link building and if you are going to go to the expense/ effort of back linking (which is considerable) then I would want my content to be problem free.

Google is always going to alter it's algorithm to eliminate dupe content and so you run the risk of doing all that work and then things crashing down around you.

Think about it, does this really make sense? Your just copying a huge authoritative article directory - why would you do that?

    • I'm not sure I understand or buy this statement. I've done too many searches trying to find very specific info (where I'll go many pages deep into Google to find just the right little bit of info) only to come upon several results that all have the same page title and content exerpt listed. Sometimes it happens on the first page, but mostly on the second, third, or fourth page. Google obviously hasn't eliminated any duplicate pages and they don't seem to have imposed much of a penalty, if any penalty at all.

But maybe I'm still missing something.

      Peace
    • I think you're right about that. The OP did mention that this was the third best way to get material for a site. The 2 that were better were to write the material yourself, or pay for it.

Sometimes the outgoing links problem can be minimized. I found a couple of good articles lately that related to sites I have. One was written by someone with a serious health problem and fit in really nicely with a page I wanted to put up. His resource box, which I always keep intact, linked to his cordless drill site

Another that I used was an English article on an English article directory, but the author's resource box linked to his French site, and the resource box even mentioned that it covered the topic in French.

Not a lot of link leakage in either of those cases, I'd expect. Some of the hobby writers post some of the better articles but they aren't focused on seo, traffic, etc.
    • In fairness to the OP he did say option 1 or 2 was the best. In farirness to you your point is solid. Using massive amounts of duplicate scraped content to build a website is a deeply flawed strategy.
    • I do not see the point of copying an article from ezinearticles to a new site. What would you get out of it? Would you outrank ezinearticles? If that is not the strategy then how are you going to get traffic to it?
  • Would you like to elaborate? I see 2 indexed pages containing that text the rest are in the supplemental results.

I just think this is a short sighted view when investing so much into back linking the site. It's just spam
    • [1] reply
    • Absolutely, that was my point. The 2 pages that are indexed (in the main index) are my forum and another site that has stolen my content.

The differences between the 2 pages?

1/ On my forum there is a kind of footer (the replies from the other members)
2/ On the other site he added a header.

This is enough for Google to treat those 2 pages as unique content.

Now this same tutorial that I have posted here on the warriorforum (this exact page) will soon be in the main index too because of the comments from the other warriors. This creates a new footer so this page will be different from the page on my forum and from the page of the other webmaster who stole my content.
  • In addition to the above... I just checked and now Google has indexed this page (the warriorforum version of my Tutorial) in its main index.

Only difference with the page on my forum? The footer

    • Beautiful tutorial, You can never go wrong with screen shots . They are so easy to take in.

So when you write relevant pages on the themes you chose for example the keyword above. (bowling balls)

      Bowling shoes:
      • cheap bowling shoes
      • dexter bowling shoes
      • kids bowling shoes
      • bowling shoes for women
      • linds bowling shoes
would you link back to the main page targeting "bowling balls" or would you not link back and just write the relevant pages so that google can pick them up and see the relevancy.?
And lastly what domain name would you use? this is all theoretical of course. (taking in account that bowlingballs.com and anything close would already be taken)

thank you again for the info.

It's plain and simple and easy to work on. However, it's up to each individual to apply it on a daily basis... and I think that's where most people fall down.

    * Pick one niche and stick to that. Don't wander off
    * Follow the plan as laid out in this report
    * Stick with it... even when you don't feel like it
    * Don't be afraid to make mistakes
    * Learn from your mistakes
    * When you make some money, use it to outsource some tasks
    * And don't be afraid to try new things within your niche

    Hope this helps:-)

  • Hi there Vitavee. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

Whether I use Google.com or Google.co.uk, the option of "Related searches" isn't offered -- only "Wonder Wheel" and "Timeline". I do get some Related Searches at the bottom of my results page, but there's only two columns of suggestions -- not as many as in your screen-shot.

This is very interesting and is something that I didn't realise; I'd read that a good placement in the SERPs depended upon a good keyphrase match combined with a high PageRank. So it's good to know that the relevance of the total content on your website can be a powerful influence on your placement.

  • Yeah the related searches is not offered for me either. Maybe use the wonder wheel?
  • I can just say that yesterday Related searches was available for me, but today they are not anymore. So probably there have been made very recent changes in Google. Still that is strange that for some people that is still available. I just looked at that Wonder wheel, in fact that also looks good.

Maybe we really can use this instead of related searches which are no longer available in that way like they were just yesterday?
    • [1] reply
    • Computer Girl -

I know, I tried this out either yesterday or the day before and it worked well. Now, even the related search thing at the bottom doesn't give the same info for bowling balls as the original "related search" tool.

Then again, my google toolbar has also gone wonky the last day or two. Maybe they are throwing things against the walls over at Google and it'll be a while before things settle down.

I do hope they bring it back, or something similar. Wonder Wheel looks like the next best substitute so far. May need to dig into that more.

I still really like his technique and think you could use it in whatever way you find multiple results that relate to your main keyword. They way he used it for organizing a large report or ebook is just great. We make that kind of stuff too hard, and this general method follows exactly what Google is putting out!
  • This problem actually reminds me of something I tried when that "instant" thing first showed up. I took my main keyword and then typed "a" as if I was going to write another word. The top results starting with that letter then showed up.

For example, with bowling balls I just tried "bowling a" and I got alleys and alone. For "bowling b" I got balls, bags, ball reviews. Some letters are going to produce more than others, but I wouldn't have thought about "bowling movies" until I did "bowling m"!!

So while this may take a little longer, I think this can still give some good unexpected related searches. You could probably get lost in this for a while, which is maybe what you need to do if you are going to dig for really unique google-loved search terms. I mean, it's giving them right to you.

The only problem is that I don't think you can have the "instant" part fill in things *before* your search term. That cuts down your options, unless you manually move some things around. If anyone figures that out, I'd like to know.

    • @ELK

Of course, there are other tools/methods that we can use, if this really will not be available anymore. But I think that maybe it will be back, I used link from yesterday searches in which I know that I used related searches and I got result in Google:

The search option you have selected is currently unavailable.

I think this could mean that it will be back!

  • Hey this is a super tutorial and helpful to anyone learning internet marketing - Thanks!
  • first time caller, long time listener.

this seems more like blatant plagiarism than "leveraging" to me. maybe i missed something...

just sandwich a paragraph or two of your own content between someone's article? really? really?! And then you put their content on your site? wow.

I'd be pretty pissed if someone did this to me. I'd want blood. Stealing from direct competitors..This really works?

My moral standards really aren't that high, but this doesn't seem right. Still, I'm not ruling anything out. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Cheers.
    • [1] reply
    • This is not plagiarism because you will be re-publishing the content with the permission of the original publisher, and should leave all attribution links in place.

You shouldn't modify the content by sandwiching sentences within the content. What you can do is add headers and footers outside the content.

There will always be a place for Duplicate Content on the Internet. The trick is knowing when and how to leverage it effectively.

It seems that Google is one step ahead already though as the related search is not displayed in many locations for some reason.

  • Wow I see that there have been some interesting discussion here

1/ 1st about the "Related Searches" option, it has disappeared for me too. It's not the 1st time it disappears though, it happened about 2 months ago and then it came back, hopefully it will come back this time too.

There are many other ways to find relevant topics so in case it wouldn't come back I'll try to show one or two.

2/ About the duplicate content debate. First as I said in my original post I prefer unique content over duplicate content but then I also prefer to have a LOT of modified duplicate content (headers + footers) rather than just a few unique articles.

The Google index is full of authority sites that are no more than duplicate content houses so the evidence that it works is here in front of everyone's eyes.

    Don't believe me?

Would you say that free-press-release.com is an authority site? It is PR5, it has 5,280,000 indexed pages and it's FULL of duplicate content! Actually I even think that all the press releases on that site are duplicate content like for ALL the other press release websites. As soon as a press release is published there are thousands of scrapers that republish the articles elsewhere.

And goarticles.com or articledashboard.com and co... Those directories are also FULL of duplicate content. They even encourage people to duplicate the articles they host on other websites, this is the purpose of those sites.

Articledashboard is a PR5 website and has 1,310,000 indexed pages in Google.

Socialmention.com is a PR6 website and is nothing more than duplicate content cut in small chunks.

Those sites are not exceptions - there are really TONS of websites like that on the net.

At one point of time I also had my own article directory. It was PR5, had more than 100,000 indexed articles and ALL of them were duplicate content. And I was getting great traffic to those articles without even building any backlink myself.

One of my friends has started to build an authority sites a few months ago with a secret method I showed him. Today he has 68,000 indexed pages in Google and ALL of them are composed of duplicate content (without breaking any TOS of course). His site grows daily and new pages are indexed real fast.

Personally I have no problem in using WPEC to build my sites and show others how I do it. It works and it's not theory.

    • I hope this will be my last post here. Vita, this is your baby...

However, I seriously think you should delete the post I quoted below. We can't have everyone knowing that they can join our club and leverage Duplicate Content, without getting locked up by Google.

We need the majority to carry on believing that Duplicate Content is EVIL.

Please stick to THEORY - that's what the 'experts' want!

      • [1] reply
    • No no no no. ARGHH........ Stop the insanity!

None of those sites rank because they have duplicate content and none of them are authorities because of it. They rank because they have tons of backlinks. thousands of marketers link to ezinearticles, press release sites and etc etc. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH DUPLICATE CONTENT WORKING FOR THOSE SITES.

No one is talking about duplicate content penalties if that is what you think. We are saying that getting a whole lot of duplicate content does nothing NADA special for your site. It does not create a site that people say "hey I want to link there." in any great quantity and therefore you really cannot say that google loves them.

Article directories always get traffic just by the sheer fact that marketers use and share (read link) them so again nothing to do with duplicate content. the content is not attracting most of the traffic the service is to begin with . Thats what makes article directories completely separate from the sites you are talking about. Its apples and oranges.

I'll say the same thing that I said to OZ. Stop using anecdotal evidence that no one can verify. put up the site that is ranking (for a competitive term not some weak term) because it has huge gobs of scraped content. I'm betting that it still comes down to backlinks to your site and not some magic of massive duplicate content.

All of your examples are off base. All of them get massive backlinks from the people using them not those just there to read the content. Frankly this is the latest craze that is just emptying peoples pockets. Develop a wordpress plugin say it by itself can get you ranking on google and everyone buys the magic pill and still does not rank at the top of Google for any noteworthy search result.

Need some evidence guys. Thats all I am saying.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • @Mike Anthony Thanks added. I misunderstood you, sorry for that. I totally agree with what you said. It's not BECAUSE of the content we put on our sites that we get traffic, it's thanks to the backlinks that we create. NO DOUBT.

But isn't it {easier|faster|cheaper} to use content written by someone else and only work on the backlinking?

We are not creating sites that will get mouth advertising here. We are creating niche sites with a lot of relevant content to make money with affiliate programs / adsense and to build our lists. Nothing more.

For building TRUE authority sites that get bookmarked and recommended nothing can replace unique content.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • For the love of pete Why? You just gave yourself the answer. You once had an article directory site that just because it offered something real got backlinks without you having to run them down. so sure use someone elses content to help out but whats so wrong about adding some unique content/service so that people want to come back?

As a regular in the SEO/adsense section there sure is a whole lot of crying every few months when google starts throwing people sites (your business) right out the door because they consider the sites garbage. Do a search in that section and you'll fine people who have been ready to jump out windows when their MFAs got cleaned out.

Incidentally going into 2011 if you play your cards right you don't have to create all your content. Everything is going community oriented and just facilitating that lets the community create content - original at that.

But hey we at WF should know that by now.

P.S. Don't make it be missed that I am all for the first two suggestions in your tutorial and said so. Still good stuff.

  • Hi everyone. For those of you who don't see related searches on the side, try looking at the bottom just below the search results. Thats where mine is but i also use google chrome browser. There are however for me only 8 results. Oh and just out of curiosity has anyone ever used or needed the Time Line search below the wonder wheel option.
  • This is a kind of tutorial that everyone needs. I have made this kind of tutorial at instructables but it is not related to Internet Marketing. But you may find it useful at Instructables Member: theseventhsage
  • Good tutorial. Thanks for sharing.

I have a query about WPEC. Does the content created by this tool pass copyscape? Can we use this plugin for adsense sites without getting banned?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • No it will not pass the copyscape test. Copyscape checks groups of 4 or 5 consecutive words and since WPEC uses content from the article directories you will find plenty of similar sentences.

But the way copyscape works and the search engine bots work is completely different. Copyscape is used to find plagiarized articles. Search engines CANNOT be as restrictive as copyscape or else they would filter thousands of thousands of legit pages.

About adsense, it all depends on what you do with your site. You can have 10 original articles and get banned from the adsense program if your site has no other goal than making money from adsense. If a site has no other reason to exist than adsense then the account is at risk.

To stay on the safe side I ALWAYS put something else than just adsense on my new MFA sites like an optin box.

Also you must have a privacy page where you enter the google adsense cookie policy. Without this you will get banned if you have a human editor reviewing your site.

In one sense, I think it's kinda cool that people are complaining about it. You get to see who is actually trying Vita's system instead of just reading it before moving on the the next quick fix.

btw - Vita. Great little tutorial. Simple and it works. As a karma benefit, you are totally in line with with reality--in other words, the simple good things in life are free.

    Thank you.

I mean it. Like Columbus, who made an egg stand on it's end by tapping it hard enough to crack the shell and flatten it (YOU) instead of rolling the egg all over the place (ME), you just helped un-complicate a crazy trip I was on.

Just my luck, a dollar late and a day short, as usual. Missed it by that much.
  • Good work. How much cash is that article making right now?

Instead of an article directory try making wee little blog posts of your own using the different keywords as a long-tail base.

    Make sure to write a story;

My name is Betty F. and I live in Columbus Ohio and I'm looking for some decent bowling shoes for a reasonable price. Can you help me? I don't have much money and I love spending time down at the bowling alley with my friends. Bla bla bla....

Even a small little post like that will be seen as very original to Google. Short works just fine as long as you are telling a story. Why? Search "Columbus Ohio and I'm looking for some decent" - NO results.

So then along comes someone in Columbus Ohio that types in "decent bowling shoes for reasonable price" and they're ALL YOURS BABY!

Google see the users regional stats, and will direct them to sites that mention their area. That is why I do all my blogs focused on a particular State.

I would stop spending time on Article Marketing domains all together.

    • Another source that has not been mentioned is the power of comments. Placing keywords in your comments is also a very good thing to do. Comments are unique content and can really be used to help rank for keywords.

Do not overpopulate comments with keywords and make them sound unnatural but adding a few keywords every so often does help.

Sometimes I even add the post title within one or two comments if I am in a hurry, but it is better to work the keywords into the comments naturally.

I also paste the Webpage with the article into Google's External Keyword tool to find optional keywords to target and work into the content and the comments. This is after the article is published of course.

Updating comments and content is a good thing.
Of course you have to allow comments on your site for this to work.

The more comments that your pages receive and that contain keywords relative to your content the higher page rank your individual pages will receive over time.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Thanks Vitavee for your very useful tutorial and follow up comments. I must admit to initially siding with the concerns of but now feel that your technique is definitely worth a try.

As I understand it, Google rewards a site for it's combination of relevant content, back links (their value more than the number) and visitor numbers as well as other factors such as a silo content structure etc.

I bought an article re-writer tool (that seems to be a lot more time consuming than Vitavee's approach) which just helps to say the same thing in different combinations of letters so ultimately, from an "ethical" perspective, (if that word is allowed here)undertaking Vitavee's method at least provides some clearly unique content.

Perhaps this method would be more effective if one were to shorten the original articles before attaching the new paragraphs so that the new additions carried more keyword weight.
A link to the full unabridged article/s kept on another "library" page should address any "article use" issues.??

  • The "Related Searches" option has disappeared from the Google side bar for a few days now... Don't let this stop you, there are many other ways to find related topics by using Google.

    Here is one of them:

    1/ Go to Google Sets

2/ Enter your primary keyword at least twice as shown on the screenshot below (entering it three, four or five times will give you slightly different results, worth a try)

3/ Look at the results and pick a few related topics that "sound" good as shown below:

Note that I have added an "s" at the end of "Bowling league" because it would sound weird to create a theme for 1 and only 1 bowling league. Instead, the article topics for this theme would be about several leagues so using the plural is better.

I'm no expert interpreting the finer points of what's legit or not in Google's eyes, but use caution if you value your AdSense account and want to keep it.

    • Hi Chris,

I have a number of directories with Adsense that auto load with articles from UAW.

I wonder if you would share the other monetizing source because I'm worried now after reading this thread.

I have an Adsense plugin that loads the ads automatically, to do it manually would take years because each site has many thousands of articles up, I'm talking 15,000 +

      Cheers,

I don't see the link in the sidebar and I could not see them at the bottom of the page. I'm on a wireless connection.

On another computer in the house that is on a dial-up connection, I could see the related searches at the bottom of the page but still not see the link in the sidebar.

I cleared my cache, cookies and search history on the computer that's on the wireless connection and now I can see the related searches at the bottom. So I'm guessing it's a cookie issue and not the type of connection.

Hope that might help some of you to see them.
  • Wonderful little guide.

    • No, you will have different blocks of text, just select the ones you want to use for each post. Look at the options in the "import" screen.

I have customized my install of the plugin to make the random option work like I want, so it's random between different posts but the randomness is based on the post id so refreshing a page doesn't affect the content.

Here is how I did this:

1/ In the plugin editor of wordpress, open the file WPEC/classes/wp_posts.class.php

      2/ Search for the line:

      PHP Code:
      static function get_title_value_block() {
3/ Add this just below that line:

      PHP Code:
      srand( $ post_id);
(remove the space between the $ and the post_id. When I remove it here the code disappears...)

That's it! Now you can keep it to random without the refresh problem

Yes you can use Market Samurai too, no problem.

When you get it it's actually very easy to use, contact their support desk if you have specific questions: support A-T addictivetext.com

Very good suggestions, do you have a specific strategy to have your visitors comment on your posts?

If you can get an exact match domain it will make your life much easier.

Thanks a lot Mark. That's very useful. I will not risk my adsense account.

That's true, many people only want to take money, no matter if they ruin the business of someone else.

That being said I hope you hadn't WPEC in mind or myself when you wrote this

Because I didn't mention adsense anywhere in my original post. Someone asked me how I was monetizing the sites I was building with this plugin and I said that I was building lists and promoting affiliate products.

  • This is an excellent technique and show how to structure our sites by having relevant categories and topics for articles. The next part is link building. Building links is very essential and we should not completely rely on site structure and onpage SEO in order to achieve good rankings.

Can you give us ideas on the best approaches for building links to such sites? By best approach I mean those link building methods which do not cost a lot in terms of money or time, which can be automated to a certain extent and which can provide a lot of SEO value in long term.

Thanks again for your useful post.

  • I have a question relating to the use of these related keywords and categories that all have 'bowling' or 'bowling ball' in. It's been my feeling that this kind of over-optimisation for keywords is not as effective as it once was (was it Google Sniper that popularised this? I forget) and could even signal to the SEs that you are just sniping keywords and possibly damage your site from an SEO point of view. I think an important aspect of this, which I think the OP mentioned, was not to look at search volume and competition too hard. Could Google conclude from an analysis of your site's keywords that you are over-optimised for high-value/-volume keywords? Could be... Anyway, I would emphasise the importance of avoiding repeating the main site keyword/s in EVERY category and on EVERY page and ensure a good, wider spread of RELATED keywords, as the OP said. What do people think?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • No I don't link all the articles to their parent theme and I don't link them either to my homepage.

I use this free plugin to interlink the pages between them ala wikipedia.

Hi Anwar, well that's a question that deserves another tutorial

Basically what you have to do is:

1/ Get links from as many KIND of websites as possible (web2, blogs, forums, news etc...)

2/ Build links to those links.

If you want to build a site about bowling balls it's better to cover other topics that are not all about bowling balls (but nothing wrong if they are all about bowling eventhough a site that would also cover golfing balls, tennis balls etc... could outrank you - would look like a more authoritative site than yours).

That being said nothing wrong if your site is all about bowling and nothing else.

Example: search for cow clothes on google.

Site at #1 position has the word "cow" in all its pages I think. It covers cow clothing, cow toys, cow cards etc...

That's a perfect example of my "bowling ball" tutorial.

  • Guys,

the principle behind it has MORE ramifications than only for site structure, categories and so forth...

Google's Wonderwheel is really the key here and its value is PRICELESS!

You enter a search term and see very closely related and relevant terms to a keyword. Now - you want to have those related keywords on your site (categories etc.)....but ALSO use them in your link building and articles.

The good thing, it's so simple you dont even need expensive software.

Enter main KW in Google, get related keywords. Write some articles for the related KWs and then link back using the keywords to your site's category pages and/or articles. Sooner or later you will have an authority site with a VERY GOOD chance to rank for the keywords one level higher even!

I'm not sure how I've missed this for 2 months, but your post is very well done and its obvious to me you have a teacher's heart (do you need a job?) just kidding...

Your concept echoes what I've learned from a Warrior I admire and respect, Lisa Parmley, and her excellent inlineSEO course material, so you are spot-on with your suggestions here and you've managed to condense and illustrate it very well.

The part that is usually missing from any method, are user-friendly tools to pull it off without writing everything from scratch.

  • Vitavee for your info, I like your last product. It helps me a lot, when will you launch the next product?

And thanks for the job offer

Yes, that video I showed in my opening post is a part of video series that you can access here.

Very interesting read, thanks for posting the link to that thread. Jim has been leveraging this content very well it seems. I guess it's quite difficult for Google to apply all the rules mentioned in their TOS for technical reasons.

I keep them dofollow except if they are using the keywords I want to rank for

That's a good thing actually because if you build quality sites you will almost always benefit from their "upgrades".

With the latest "farmer" update I didn't get any of my sites that got slapped, I even had one of them jumping to about 1,500 visits per day while it was at about 1,000 a day before the update.

Thanks a lot Next one probably this month if all goes well.

  • Hello all-

This is my first post on the forum. Lots of awesome information here.. I run an e-commerce site that has been online for over 15 years, and I am constantly working on keeping our SEO, mostly organic, competitive.

I love the original posters guide, this is great information for building a site from scratch. Has anyone written something similar to use these tools to enhance SEO on a site that has been around for a while?

For instance, I already have set categories and subcategories for my products.

Could I take one of my main navigation categories, search that term in Google, identify related searches that have terms that I can use, then run them through the Keyword tool to help out my subcategories?

Just curious.. any feedback would help tremendously.

    Thanks!
    G
