I have a link building service that I paid to help my SEO, how do I evaluate if it actually works? I do see our links are submitted (at least some are being successfully submitted), but how do i know if it increases my site ranking?

Do I just check the SERP report? Please help!

Check your Google analytics and webmaster tools, see if your targeted keywords are getting you traffic. You can also check your current SERP rankings manually here:

    Rank Checker

It's a rank checker tool. If you see changes from your previous results, then it's working. You can also use Yahoo site explorer, to check your new links.

Check the report you'll be sent, make sure you keep checking your SERP rankings though-out the month, stay in close contact with whoever you paid to ensure links are being built though out the month and you are getting updates on the status of your order.

I mainly look to see if the page is moving up in rankings on the keyword(s) I am targeting with the anchor text of the link building method I am testing.

I know this point is pretty contentious, but some people believe that the wrong links can not harm a site and some people believe they can. Without really wanting to argue over which of those is the case, for my own link building I adopt the view of the latter.

To test link building methods, I have a fair few sites. Some of these I consider my more valuable sites and some I do not see as much asset value in.

If I want to test a link building method, I will pick a site that does not hold a lot of value to me, and try the link building method on it. I try to isolate the method so that I do not do a lot else with that site for maybe about a 3 month period and monitor the movement of the site/page on the target keywords.

As I gain more trust in a link building method, I slowly start to roll it out to sites that I consider a little more valuable, ...

Sadly time is a good a measure as any.

The backlinks by themselves may not actually bring you much traffic, but as Google does its “Dance” every few months, you should see your site rise up the rankings the more backlinks you have.

Avoid paying out for backlinks that require you to pay month on month though.
