SEO Linkedin Question

I'm trying to settle an argument over the SEO value of optimising your Linkedin profile.

A lot of articles say that If you're not trying to optimise your site for "My Website", "My Portfolio" and "My Blog" it might be an idea change the URL's to your own anchor text instead.

However if you hover over the links you'll find they're not actually links to your website at all but a redirect via LinkedIn's own server.

Does this make them worthless?

Thanks

  • I'm not really an expert by any means... But I think the redirect will negate the link... but I did find this interesting article that shows some other ways to get some high pr backlinks from linkedin... you can read it here: use linked in for link building
  • If you hover over the link, if it doesnt say your domain in the bottom of the browser, then it has no seo value.

On my linked in profile, they are redirects, so probably no SEO link juice there.

    • Linkedin has never really been a huge deal.

Crawlers still see the link and understand that the redirect is just a redirect passed through a URL variable. Linkedin's PR transfer methodology is weird to say the least:
