Why is our Google Page Rank 0? (Alexa Rank 40,000)

Hi everyone!
I wanted to ask a quick question. Can anyone can understand why our website "iOrbix" has such a low Google Page Rank?

Our website is located here: http://iorbix.com/

Some Statistic Info:

Current 7 day Alexa rank: 37,599 - Rapidly rising
Iorbix.com Site Info
(No need to lecture me on how inaccurate Alexa is, but I think it is still significant data)

Google Webmaster Tools says we have:
+50,000 incoming links from 73 unique domains.

Server Statistics:
We get Hundreds of Thousands of unique visitors monthly, with Millions of page views.

I believe Google Page rank is mostly dependent on Incoming Links/Backlinks, and not so much your Traffic Volume.

But why would "Google Webmaster Tools" tell us that we have over 50,000 incoming links from different sites other than our own, yet, we have no Page Rank score (or it is Null/Zero).

When I use any online tool to check Page Ranks and Google Backlinks, they always have no Rank information for http://iorbix.com/

Can anyone look at our site and see if there is some obvious problem here?

What can I do to improve our Page Rank, and why aren't we listed as even having backlinks?

Why would I be interested anyway in my Page Rank?
Because we are looking for investors for iOrbix this year, and these are the "External Statistics" they like to look at.

Also, as a side note, my friend and I developed several Applications in 2008, and each of them easily got PR of 2-4, without any real promotion.
Here is one of them that is inactive, but still has a PR of 3/10: hi5 Profile Generator | Who's in? Your Friends. Your World.

If you try browsing around iOrbix, you may notice that it uses Ajax, which is faster for browsing through a site, (The entire page does not re-load). Facebook also uses this.

Does anyone know if Ajax browsing can affect Page Rank?
Every page is accessible itself without ajax, and all links point to the pages without ajax (ajax is activated by javascript), also, Google is indexing all pages, so I don't believe this is the problem of our PR.

Thanks for your time and suggestions!

try pointing from each page back to the home page. all the link juice pr goes to other pages in your site and divided.

The publicly visible pagerank is updated maybe once in a couple of months. When ranking your website, they take the actual pagerank into account instead of the publicly visible green bar.

Google hasn't publicly updated page rank since last April and may never update it again.

Don't worry about page rank, just keep on truckin'

Yup. That's what I found out too a week back. Google updated its PRs last April. Nothing since.

Yeah. I think Google is done with its publicly visible Pagerank on the toolbar. I beleive this rank only matters to websites that want to attract paid links.

Yeah, page rank gets updated once every few months. Maybe, you should just wait for the next PR update.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for all the helpful replies!

Wow, what a relief... now it makes sense.

iOrbix was released in Private Beta in April 2010.
Then became fully public about 2 months later.

So we never got a real Page Rank because Google has stopped updating that feature before they could rank us.

"try pointing from each page back to the home page" - I think we are already doing this currently. We have links pointing back to the Front Page in both the Header and Navigation.

"When ranking your website, they take the actual pagerank into account instead of the publicly visible green bar." - I didn't understand what you mean here. Isn't the green bar a result of your Actual Page Rank?

Thanks for all the answers and suggestions!
I'll just wait and hope Google decides to update PR some time again.

you seem to have a misunderstanding here. You dill have "real page rank" as google update that every day and factor that into the search results everyday. They just export a historical snapshot of that internal pr when they feel like it. Your rankings will not change when or if they update the toolbar at the next export.

Google has not updates visible PR for 9 months, so my advice is forget it unless they update it again, you simply cannot use it as a benchmark at the moment.

I really think people should not worry about PR, as long as your getting traffic, and conversions it dont matter.

Pagerank is a mostly useless factor. If you are really concerned, just establish backlinks with some high PR sites.

    Thanks again for the replies!

To reply the last 2 posts (alwaysready & b0n4r),
As I wrote in my first post, (because I know people will mention that PR is useless once you are getting conversions):

Why would I be interested anyway in my Page Rank?
Because we are looking for investors for iOrbix this year, and these are the "External Statistics" they like to look at.

It would be an extra source of "credibility" for me when getting investors for our company.
I'm sure the question will come up in the examination of our website, but as members here already stated:

"Google has not updates visible PR for 9 months, you simply cannot use it as a benchmark at the moment."

I can link to this Topic if needed, to help explain why we have 0 Page Rank, and that it has nothing to do with Google having a low rating of our website.

    Thanks!

Alexa Rank is way way way off... and I know this for a fact.

I know of a site that gets almost 300,000 pageviews a month and is ranked around 150,000 in alexa and a site that gets 3000-5000 pageviews a month and is ranking 50,000 in Alexa.

I also of a site getting 190,000 pageviews and ranks 7,000 in Alexa...

I won't put much into Alexa rankings as it seems to have nothing to do with actual traffic numbers...
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3121536].message }}

    @ D Baker, Yup I agree.

At a point in time when my site had lower traffic, my Alexa rank was higher than when I got allot more traffic later on.
Our site mostly has European traffic (who does not use Alexa tools), so our ranking is even lower than it probably should be.

I know for myself how inaccurate Alexa is first hand,
Thus I wrote in the start: (No need to lecture me on how inaccurate Alexa is, but I think it is still significant data)

I still think sites ranking 50,000 in Alexa would supposedly have some Google PR above 0, so I threw in that statistic.

    @ cbpayne,
I think I understood the situation, I also understand what you are trying to say.

That Google still internally does have a Page Ranking system, which determines how high to place websites based on keywords in a search.
This is the foundation of how Google works and what makes it a successful Search Engine, so I know they can't get rid of this.

What I was talking about in that statement, is as you said "They just export a historical snapshot of that internal pr when they feel like it." I was asking about the "Snapshot"/Data that the allow the public to see, which I can then use when speaking to investors as credible source of our site's worth.

    Thanks

Pagerank may never update ever again. Google's exclusive rights to Pagerank (which is originally owned by Stanford University) was set to expire this year. You can read more info about it here:

Google PageRank Dead or Alive? | TechJaws.com

But, finding quality sites without Pagerank's help is still doable through:

    - mozRank
    - Alexa traffic rank
    - page and domain's authority through Open Site Explorer
    - SEMRush SE Traffic Price
    - and manually checking the site's link profile

You can read my most recent blog entry regarding it here:

It is because of several reasons but the main reason for 0 page rank will be that you content is not so good and your linking is also not so good.

Try to improve your content and link some sites which have high pr above 2.

Eventhough google not updated the page rank, still many of my new websites moved from unranked to pr0, I hope you can check whether your website is in sandbox or penalized. Any websites shifted from unranked to pr0 similar to mine??

It looks like you're re-directing your home page to a subdirectory.

On one of my sites, entering the home page URL gives (after redirection to a subdirectory): PR=n/a. However, the forum index page on the subdirectory has PR=4.

If you investigate some high traffic websites (Alexa rating below 4,000), you'll see some of them have PR=0.

Beats me what is the explanation of this, just some observations.

Because PR is not based on alexa ranking. They are not even remotely related.
High traffic does nothing for PR.
