How do I get high-PR contextual links (without paying for them)

I've been struggling with SEO on my site for a couple months now. Despite having over 300 backlinks, I'm ranked around 80 for my main keywords in google. I've got dozens of forum profile links, and hundreds of blogroll links from PR0 wordpress sites. These don't seem to help at all.

I've come to the conclusion that I need contextual backlinks, on pages that have PR themselves. Not the inner pages of high-PR domains.

Any ideas on how I can get these, without paying for them?

Find bloggers in your niche who have high PR. Contact them and offer to write content for them in exchange for a link. This is called guest posting and you can get high PR contextual links this way.

Yes, ask for link exchanges, or buy specific links for your niche. Also guest posting is another great way, but too much work for me.

With guest posting your post is going to sooner or later roll off the homepage so then you will just have the inner page rank. You are going to either have to buy your own high pr domains and host them on individual ips, or pay for a link broker service. Or you could try to build some web 2.0 blogs and work on building their PR.

Sorry I have just not heard of any easy, cheap solution for this type of backlink.

It's pretty much impossible to get a contextual link on a high PR page on a site that you don't own, without paying for it.

Unless you are including blog comments in that.

If you have really, really good content you could try contacting high PR blogs who might still have some decent PR on inner pages due to internal links but it's a long shot.

Impossible? You have got to be kidding. No you can't do it with a push button tool and article writing is highly unlikely to get you it but it is NOT impossible.

You have a pretty good shot at it if you get out of creating junk sites and create something that is noteworthy.

and the fantastic news for 2011 is that you no longer need to know programming to create a unique site that other sites will actually write about.

Actually, doing that gets you a "pretty good shot" across the SEO board. Not
              said enough.

I use blogs to get high PR links. You can use a keyword tool to get the rank of the page and then leave comments related to the blog. It seems to be working ok for me.

If you create an authority site, there are going to be some sites that will automatically link to you.

As for creating useful content, if you are an expert or with thorough experience at something then fine. Creating a decent looking site with the useful content, people are going to link to you. If on the other hand, you don't know much about the subject, you've done the research on the net and basically published what is already out there (in your own words) then there is little chance.

Unless you are a professor or someone with in depth know how of a particular persuit then you are better of creating your own links.

I have seen good results with guest posting. Even professional bloggers sometimes need a break and that when they are on the lookout for guest bloggers and usually allow 1-2 links.

This definitely works, and I would highly recommend this strategy. Sometimes a little money helps too.

I disagree with almost everyone here. There's a simple method to get lovely, relevant, quality, high PR backlinks.

Make a list of your top competitors for your keyword and another for top industry dominators, in similar keywords.

Check the backlinks of all the best sites you find, organize them by PR. Now go through these backlink sources.

You'll find places you had no idea existed that are highly relevant and powerful link sources. In many cases, you'll have to email the webmaster and ask for an inclusion, you'll be surprised at how many webmasters are willing to help, especially if the site is being actively updated.

I'm actually doing this right now, just ten minutes or so ago, I found one of my competitors has several wikipedia backlinks (they're nofollow, but powerful nonetheless). I wrote a well cited article (APA format) and published it on my site. Then I went to Wikipedia and added some new (relevant and useful) info to that page and two other pages

Generally, two or three sites gained this way seems to be equivalent to literally THOUSANDS of the kind generated through that forum/blog crap.

Not anymore. I completely agree with you. I think IM has gone soo deep into automatic backlinks that they forget that 99% of the web does not use senuke, submitters or put posts in comments or forums. You CAN find sites that give you high PR links but you cannot push a button to either find them or place them so people think its impossible.

Blog commenting and reciprocal linking are the only two I can think of off the top of my head.

Okay, well I just googled a related keyword, found the top 5 blogs with PR2-PR4, and emailed them all with this script:

      "Hey Mr xxx,

Was just reading through your blog with much interest. Lots of great content, and updated regularly! I am enjoying it thoroughly.

I myself write a blog dedicated to xxx . I write all about my hobby of xxx.

Would you consider allowing me to write a guest post for your site? Perhaps about xxx?

      Thanks,

      xxx"

      What do you think?
